stock manifolds.. what is the flap for??
ok so i got flow-tech headers(which kick *** and sound awesome) and while taking off the LG4 manifolds.. i noticed on the passenger side, this wierd flap housing inbetween the Y pipe and the manifold... appears to have been vacum opperated, but my question is...
why the hell would you want to restrict the exhaust flow from the manifold???? what was the point of it???

EFE - "Early Fuel Evaporation".
When the engine is cold, the valve closes, forcing part of the exhaust flow from the passenger bank of cylinders, through a passage in the bottom of the intake manifold to warm the base of the plenum, then out the other side. When the engine warms up a bit, the vacuum is taken off, and the valve opens. Helps the engine run a little better and cleaner when cold.
Been doing it for decades. Have tended away from it in the EFI years.
