Header Interference with Cross Member
The other day I had to remove my starter to add the heat shield that I was too darn lazy to do when I installed my Edelbrock headers and really caused myself a headache. First, I had the entire exhaust system welded together when I had the custom cat-back system installed so getting the starter out was a real bitch to say the least (I had to unbolt the y-pipe from the header collectors to get enuff room, this is where my problem began). When I re-olted the y-pipe I got the flanges turned a bit but didn't realize it right then (they were NOT touching anywhere). I fired up the car to make sure that I had them sealed up right and all of that jazz and all was fine. The next time I drove the car I had one helluva vibration, a clunk when I'd give it gas, and a fairly constant drone. I thought that my baby was dying, so I jacked it her up and say that the header collector flanges were hitting the cross member when the motor would rock in the bay. Loosen bolts, turn flanges, tighten bolts, and low and behold it's all good. A big pita for such a bonehead move.
Anyone out there doing this job should be aware of this. Sorry for the novel I just wrote here.
