Dual Hookers (Mark Shields could ya help me)
Dual Hookers (Mark Shields could ya help me)
Hey guys, and mark i figure you're like the head promoter for Hooker Aero chamber mufflers hehe. Anyways i love the sound of your car and i was wondering if it was possible to just buy 2 hooker mufflers and put them on where the other two mufflers were before, by the way this is on my '76 firebird the dual exhaust system is very simple and pretty much straight back. Do you think the dual hooker mufflers will make for a good sound, i'm just curious how they sound resonating off each other. Has anyone else heard true dual hookers? Thanks for the help guys and sorry for saying the word hooker so much!

I don't see why not, as long as there is enough room and the in/out openings will fit the pipes.
Not sure how it would sound, but add headers and larger piping and it will help a lot. Unless your piping now is sufficient for your setup.

I already have hooker headers and the muffler setup i have right now is stock but the headers make it sound meaner so i figure once i switch out the mufflers it should really wake up the sound of the car, there's no smog equipment at all on it so its just a true dual setup, right now i believe the tail pipes are 2.5s do you think i should go to 3"???

i have 2.5" true duals on my 84 TA with dual 2.5" outset in/center out hooker aerochambers. i have shorty headers and no catalytic converters. i love how they sound.......... they have a low, deep rumble at idle (it sets off car alarms). they are suprisingly quiet when crusing around (although you can still hear them)......i say surprisingly becuase if you look at the single in/single out hooker aerochambers, you can see right through them, no baffles, no glass packing. when you get on them they just bark.......very, very mean. i absolutley love the sound. by the way, this is on a cammed 305. i would definetly recommend putting the aerochambers on your 76 firebird.
excellent thanks darble, i can't wait to put a set on the firebird i'll try and get a clip of the firebird after the hookers are put on, i figure it'll sound pretty mean on a cammed 355

Hey darbleinad, i have a cammed 305 too! I am thinking of ordering the Hooker catback anyday now. I hope mine will sound as good as yours. I have a question though. See, I really don't like the quad tips, so is there anyway to order them as dual, or take the very tip off? I know they make conversions for like $20 a pop, but could i just slide them off? I don't care if they end under the bumper. Just NO QUADS! Before my friend wrecked his 88 305 tpi iroc, he had quad tips...
Not good. His were uneven and one was about 4 inches lower than the other but still. thanks

Matt86t/a,
as for the hooker catback, i believe the only tips you can get for it are the quad tips. i know what you mean about the looks, i think they look terrible. just ask the people when you order it if you can get regular tips for it or phone hooker. if you cant get regular tips, just dont put the quad tips on ....they should be welded on anyway.

Well Mark, you'll be happy to know that i am ordering the Hooker catback. I guess you get commission right?
I wish my car could sound like darbleinad's, but i don't have true duals and i have a working cat. As for the Hooker tips, :nono:

A while back you posted about rebuilding your rear calipers on your 84 disc brake rear. I was wondering if you still knew the part number for the rear brake rebuild kit. It was way off topic but I figured that I could ask you on a post that you reciently posted on. Sorry for the confusion man. Derek

Actually Mark, i've been having second thoughts on the Hooker. That Dynomax is looking pretty good for $100 less. And i haven't heard anything bad about it. Maybe i could get some feedback?
If i have the money i'll get the Hooker, but otherwise... Darbleinad, you are my boy! Those tips are another reason the Dynomax may be better. As for sound quality, i would not know.

i had the dynomax super turbo system.......2.5" mandrel bent. it was fairly quiet with a nice rumble at idle and sounded good when you got on it......but it wasnt real loud. at that time i had headers and no cat , but still had the stock, worst piece of pipe ever, y-pipe. if you get the dynomax system go with the 3" mandrel bent system with an ultraflow muffler. also the dynomax systems dont have any stupid tips....the tail pipes are mandrel bent and turn down slightly like the factory tail pipes
