weird exhaust set up?

i jacked up my car the other day and was looking at my exhaust. i noticed that the two headers come down and go into 1 pipe and then it comes through the cat and then splits intwo. one pipe goes through a muffler and the other does not. in other words if i gutted my cat, one of my pipe would be just straight pipe coming from the bloack. is that normal?

It's normal for a Borla exhaust system. 5SIZ has the same thing on his car.

If memory serves, you can regulate the flow through the strait pipe. I think it is normally closed off, but you can uncork it or partially restrict it as you see fit. Check out the borla site

i think that cat back kit was supposed to come with 4 metal plates for the passenger side pipe. one made it completely sealed off, another opened it up a little, then there is one that is fully opened...

look in this pic, and you will see the metal plates...

is there anyway i can get rid off those metal plates?, i predict that they are decresing airflow and loudness.

that is the idea behind the plates. In some states it is illegal to have anything to flow without a muffler, thus the "off road" plates. It should be bolted on there, you just unbolt it and take out the plate that is in there.
