Check out these Hooker comp headers for 141.95
Why are these so cheap. They look like they would fit my car.
They fit 1982 -1992 Firebird and Camaros. Looks like they are recomended for stock or slightly moded engines. Anybody got more info. Looks better then my manifolds.

What is with that smiley?
Try this one

any header is better than a stock manifold. if it sucks in the flow of the exhaust it makes up in the weight. even the cheapest headers are better for a car not just for flow but a loss in weight as well

The headers that you are looking at are pn: 2460. These are shorty headers, not longtubes like in the picture. They fit good, the only thing is you have to bend the brake lines back a bit so they're not so close to the header. They drop in real easy from above, I had no problems putting them in. In fact if probably took me 10 minutes to put them in (torquing the bolts down took much longer though, some are hard to get to behind the tube, but you can tighten them with an allen fairly easily). They have 1 5/8" primaries and a 3" collector. Hooker doesn't make a y-pipe for these, so you would have to have one custom made. The reason these are cheaper is because they aren't the top of the line headers that Hooker sells. (Don't get me wrong, they're still really good headers) If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.

I have a idea about the Y pipe.
I can just unbolt my exhaust system here bold on the headers, drive up the the muffler shop, have them put on a flow and some pipes. That would be so fun. Cops? what cops? I cant here a thing!
Any way on a more serious though I think I'll get that 80 series flow with these headers. Perfect for the stock bird! Oh yeah it is stock.
Oh well Time should solve that issue.

I just fired mine up tonight with open headers, it sounded awesome. I'm going to try to get some sound clips of it tomorrow and post them up.
I would recommend not getting those headers. Thats what I have. Not fun to install on the pass side at all. Either jack the motor up on that side or take the AC box, plugs, fan switch, starter, and flywheel cover out. I hear alot of other brands fit my easier. If your car doesnt have AC it should be easy. Also you need to consider the y pipe that the shop is going to make. My shop did a horrible horrible job.

The pass side was hard to get in. Reason Im not happy with them is the fact that hooker doesnt make a y pipe for them. I had to have one made at the shop and its horrible. So Im gonna spend some money again and buy some good headers with a good y pipe.

I have the same headers, and I have no problem with them...I have had 2 y-pipes built for them, and the 1st was a ****ty job, but I had it redone about 2 months ago, and it is just fine. If you don't like the way the shop builds the y-pipe, tell them you aren't paying for
...Mine are jet hot coated, and from summit were about $330 I had absolutely no problems at all putting them on, easy. The 35 minute drive to the muffler shop was the hardest part(loud). I would recommend getting some collectors/reducers with a good set of gaskets(I used copper), and take them to the muffler shop with you, it helps them out big time if they don't have them there.

Well I cant find a shop that can make a good y pipe. Like I said before mine is junk. I dont know I might go ask around. All I know is my stock y pipe is much better than my junker now. Im about ready to see if it can be modified to work.

I think we need to understand a few things here:
1) Ease of installation isn't dependant upon the brand or cost of the headers. The space between engine and chassis/AC box/steering gear/etc. is tight on our cars. Any header you get will be difficult to fit into the small space available. Personally, I installed mine on the engine while I had it out and stabbed it that way - piece of cake. Even the spark plugs were already installed when I put the engine in. So, I can't relate directly from personal experience to all the contortions you guys have gone through getting headers installed - but I believe all the stories I've heard.
2) Those 2460 headers aren't emissions-legal. However, they are available with O2 bung and A.I.R. fittings, the two things that can make them so to the smog *****. The certified headers from Hooker, 2055, cost $350 from Summit uncoated, but that includes a very nice mandrel-bent y-pipe. The 2055's also have a tag welded onto the #1 primary with the CARB # - a nice thing to be able to point to when the inspector asks.
3) I don't know about the rest of you, but I haven't been able to get out of a muffler shop for less than $200 for anything that involved bending a pipe. I never priced it, but from my experiences, I'd guess I'd have to pay at least $300 for a y-pipe to be fabricated, and even that most likely wouldn't be mandrel bent. That makes the 2055's very attractive.
4) Having said that, the collector design is better on the 2460's than on the 2055's. If absolute performance is more important to you than cost, that's something to consider. Probably not an issue until you get into the higher cubes/higher reving engines, though.

I can hear it already!
I have trouble convincing people my car is only a 305. I have hooker headers, no cat, to a series 80 flow. Everyone thinks i have a camd 350 for some reason. And since my car was one of the loudest cars in the parking lot at school it was given the title as one of the fastest
