Help: Need a cheap muffler to hold me over
Ok, I'm gonna get a set of chrome edelbrock headers, but I won't have the $ for the catback. I need a cheap muffler to keep my car on the down low so the local law doesn't get all over me about it. Can anyone recomend something? I was thinking about the dynomax magnum race bullet mufflers, but I don't think they quiet it down that much. Then I thought glasspack, but wouldn't that be undoing everything I went through to put the headers on? I don't wanna spend more than 30-40$. Thanks.

just leave the y-pipe/cat open for a bit and save your money. When you see the fuzz, just make sure to get off the gas and coast by. With my y-pipe open, I made it through a group of 5 cops in their cars w/o getting pulled over. Putting the cat on will make it quiter then just leaving the y-pipe open.

I take it you mean a low cost muffler. Go with a galss pack. Your car will have a muffler and make it leagal. But the car will sound very nice with an open Y pipe. Just watch how much gas you give it around cops. Even a staedy pressure on the pedal it will go to a hum, and the pressure works better when not at the floor!!

If you have a Blain's Farm & Fleet near you, or maybe a Big "R" then I would suggest a Flowtech "Raptor".
I got mine 2.5" in/out for ~$15 at Farm & Fleet. I got it on an '83 Chevy 1/2 ton and it sounds pretty good for a 305 cid into a half smashed y-pipe. It's not real loud, and has a deep hearty sound. It's a lot quieter than the hollowed out glasspack that was on there when I bought the truck (about 3 mos. ago).

I have the muffler that came with the Pacesetter catback I got (used a Flow instead). You can have it for shipping - probably about $15.
It has 3" inlet, which is actually 2-1/2 expanded to 3", and dual opposite 2-1/4 outlets.
