Sorry if this has already been brought up, but im new. Is it possible to run dual exhaust pipes on an 86 that only has a single 2 1/2" pipe?

Yes, but it will be difficult to exit the rear.

I've got a dual steup on my 86 T/A. Sounds great, I had a dual in/dual out flowmaster put on it.Both tips exit the driver's side.

You can run dual 3" if you want but ground clearance will get kinda tight. You'll have to dump it before the rear axle otherwise it's a real pain. Also it's hard to find a muffler shop that will bend the pipe if you want to run duals. I had to do a custom setup on mine.

You better have some power for dual 3" exhaust.

yall guys act like the damn car wont run with dual 3" pipes. i know tons of guys that dont have over 275 with dual 3" IMO it sounds bad *** and the torque loss isnt that bad at all. first hand experience riding in these cars.

IMO.. I say if the guy wants to give up some power for the sound, more to him(them). It's a matter of preference.I have dual 2.25's on my 86 with a lg4(Wheez).....But I like the sound better than the system I had on my 84(was stock y-pipe,gutted cat, 3" intermediate pipe, crossflow with 2.50's going out on either side.
I rather him sound loud than look loud(like a big ***** spoiler).

Yes I'm running dual 3" on my 305, and yes I know it's overkill now, but I needed exhaust and I don't like spending money twice so I won't have to do it again when I drop in my 383. It still runs good, I've got plenty of low end torque and it sounds great, so no complaints here.

but see thats just it. its only a small bit of low end torque. their large cams, show they dont care about low-end/off idle torque that much. read what kfoley said, it doesnt absolutly kill ALL torque below 3500 rpms like what people would have you believe

Why?? Because dual 3" exhaust is usually run on cars with around 375-450HP. On smaller ci. engines it will take some TQ and usually doesn't have the type of sound it should without the power to make it work the way it was intended, for lots of flow, on an engine that needs it.
