True Duals
True Duals
I am gonna put true duals and hooker headers on my 89 IROC. I need to know if it will screw with the computer. If it does, how can I bypass the computer so it wont? Also, are there any other mods that will need to be done so I can do this? If so please tell me. Thanks

if it was me, I'd get a new chip burned, I'm not exactly sure what else you'd have to change other than more fuel, on the 86, I'm going computerless, and the 91 isn't getting many more mods

It might run lean when you put the headers and duals on so you might want to bump up the fuel pressure and burn another chip. Not sure what else to do though, I'm a carb guy.
The increase in flow should not affect the ECM. I'm gonna assume your car is TPI and that means it's a MAF system. It definitely wont affect the computer's thinking. Putting on headers might make it more lean but as mentioned above, just bump up the fuel pressure.
i have a question that iv'e been thinking about for a while why do people call it true duals when i was growing up and (im only 20 by the way) i always called them or heard them called duals, dual pipes etc. and usally if you have one pipe go into a muffler with two pipes comming out isnt that called a catback system? i was just wondering what you guys thought. imo i think calling them true duals is stupid it just doesnt sound right. sorry just had to vent a little.

Our cars came stock with a single pipe system that looked like dual exhaust at the back of the car. It's called true duals so that it ins't confused with the "fake" dual setup.
otherwise known as a catback system right. so if some on asked you would you say "oh its a hooker cat back" or "im runnnin dual 40 series flowmasters" or would you say " oh yeah i'm runnin a true dual flowmasters" i dont know about you guys but imo that sounds kinda fruity

A cat back could have dual tips, or just a single one. I just say I'm running dual hookers, but that usually gets wierd looks.

I've got full length Headmens and two pipes all the way back to two small Flowmaster race mufflers under the back bumper. I've got an '87 TPI and the only thing I had to do was weld an O2 bung into one of the collectors. No computer mods were necessary, although I'm sure if I had a chip burned it would help even more.
