Holley Flowtech Headers???

Wondering who here has Holley Flowtech Headers? How much do you like them? Were they a good deal for the price? Any problems with them? I know that I can get them for $80 or so from Summit.

The construction is good on them ,the flanges are thicker than hedman headers. Holley ,Hooker and Flowtech are all the same company, I was told the Hooker and flowtech are made in the same factory. They should be great for a 305 so somebody buy the ones I have in the classifieds cheap, sorry A customer ordered them from me and backed out . Later , Dave

From those choices, I picked heard they suck. Though that would be if I needed headers for my setup with new heads.

If I had a 305, and didn't need something more, they'd be ok.

I think their coated ones are the best I've seen for the money, But opted for the hedmans because they work with the angled plug heads...Now I'm thinking the longtubes might work good If I can do one of those crossmember mods I seen posted a week ago

Easy installation, unbeatable quality for the price. I'm not sorry I bought them.

iroc22,

Are the ones you have 1 ½" or 1 5/8".

Flowtech used to make 1 5/8", but all I see advertised, and at their website is 1 ½".

I've seen articles where they had the 1 5/8" on a 400 HP motor, and they also had Dynomax 1 ½" on there to. So I don't think that smaller is worse.

Anyway, I like the idea of 1 ½" just for ease of installation, and maintenance.

AJ

I have them and although they perform good I don't really like the sound and I have an anoying collector leak. Mine were slightly warped at the flange when I got them but my percy's dead soft gaskets took care of that, so no problem there. I am thinking of switching to SLP's because I really am pissed at the collector leak. I have tried every gasket known to man and they still leak because they bent when I torqued them down. Other than that they fit okay and look really good.

What size are those shifty? And do you have an aftermarket catback system, or even a catalytic converter. And do you still have the smog pump on? I am thinking of getting these for my stock 82 LG4. What would you do for a y-pipe?

Hey Shifty, that's a nice looking engine bay!

I see you're from Dayton... I'm from Huber Heights around the corner. And I work in Beavercreek.

They are 1.5" primaries with a 2.5" collector. They are fine for a mild 305. They are ceramic coated and I got the flowtech y-pipe that is made for these headers. I have a 3" catco cat running into a Hooker Aerchamber cat back. The y-pipe is 2.5" so I had to have a reducer welded right before the cat. I have no smog but the pump is still on. I stripped the torx head and cannot get them out for the life of me. So the smog pump is still on but nothing is plugged into it.

Thats not good. I would cut the belt just for some alittle more power. And to get the pump off, drill through the bolts.

I am pretty sure that those are flowtec headers. If they are, than all you need to do is buy the flowtech y pipe. It should be listed in summit somewhere. If you cannot find it, call their tech center and tell them what you bought and what you need. They should be able to help you in no time.

You guys think those 1.5" primaries will be enough for my L69? I'm not going with anything to crazy, but I do have an exhaust leak in my current exhaust manifolds and you smell bad after sitting in my car. I'm saving up for a 350, so I want something that is a cheap replacement, but will still add some horsepower. I heard the L69 exhaust manifolds are better than the LG4's, but I'm assuming they aren't better than actual headers.

Those headers will be just fine. You would get a little more power out of 1 5/8" but on a 305 it is no big deal. They are way better than any exhaust manifold though.

I forgot to comment on the use of them on a 350. For a mild 350 they will work but they will hold back a slightly built one. I believe that a few guys with the L98 are running these headers but they are still stock and around the 245 hp range.

John Lingenfelter (how's he doing anyway? Anyone know?) says 1-1/2" primaries are fine up to 350HP on a 355 cid. I'm sure you can use them for a little more than that, but you'll suffer some loss in upper RPM HP.

If you're going to be kissing 400 HP (like 375 or more) than step up to 1-5/8" headers.

It depends more on if you want low/mid RPM torque or upper RPM HP. From the looks of your intake and carb combo, lower RPM should be your goal.

I've got a little over 400Hp at the crank, and I've been running the Flowtechs. They're nice headers, but the y-pipe is ***. I bought a Flowmaster scavenger y-pipe, and had the pipes custom made. I even used a factory style flange on the end of the y(located where the cat was) so that a cat-back would bolt on w/o modifying. - I'm switching to longtubes and duals though, so It's all for sale if anyone's interested. Headers, custom y-pipe, and 3" w/ Flowmaster 80 series. It was on the car about 2 months and is in great shape. I'm asking $400 + shipping for everything if anyone is interested.

Ok so what I'm getting is that the Flowtech's will be good for my L69, but the Y-pipe that Flowtech sells sucks, correct?

There is a difference between being fine and being better. The 1 1/2 inch primaries will be just fine like others have said, but the 1 5/8 inch headers will be better. Either one will be far better than the stock manifolds!
