80 series flow -w- gutted cat

Ive got a 93' firebird -w- a 3.4L. Im ordering an 80 series flowmaster from jegs in a couple of days. What do you think itll sound like with a gutted cat and the muffler? maybe a lil' *****? who knows...i sure as hell dont. by the way the cat isnt gutted yet, im thinking about taking it into auto shop and guttin' the **** out of it if itll sound better. I might even go straight pipe right to the muffler and take the cat completely out. any feedback will be great...thanks

Hey!
When I installed my new 350 and American Thunder Cat-Back (I believe American Thunder uses 80 series muffler, but don't quote me on that) I went to a local shop and got them to bend me a piece of pipe that would let me go directly from my y-pipe on my headers to the start of the cat-back. I just used a coat hanger to get the angle and length of what I needed (bend it to fit the path you'll need the pipe to fit to) and I took it over and they made the pipe up for me (3" too) for less than $30 (can't remember the exact price now) I love the way it sounds, but I feel that it's VERY loud. I have no emissions stuff on my car, and it's a V-8 so I guess I really can't tell ya how it'll sound on your V-6, but it's worth a shot! Also, make sure that you can still get your car inspected without the cat, because if not, you'd be better of to gut the cat than to replace it with a piece of pipe. Technically here in Maine I'm supposed to have a cat on my car, but I'm pretty sure I can get an inspection when the time comes...."It's not what ya know, it's who ya know ... Anyway, good luck, and feel free to ask any more questions!

yea man, VERY loud is what im goin for...Ive heard some 6's with flowmasters and i really like it. Loud exhaust is all im about dude...yea hopefully im not gonna have any problems putting that flow on their, cause i really dont want to dish out the extra loot to replace the whole oe and buy a kit. but ill do what i hafta do. My friend kyle gutted the cat on his seville, its a 6, not sure what the displacement is but all i know is that its the best sounding caddy ive ever heard. so i think the cat is just gonna get gutted just incase i have problems getting it inspected like you said. but hey my mind changes quite a bit so maybe ill put that coat hanger idea to good use. well thanks for the info man, ill get back to you once that exhaust gets some wrench time. peace

I have a 1991 Z28.....it's a 5.7 TPI though....but I'm REALLY happy with the tone of the 80 series Flowmaster on it! Also...both cat's have been removed, has 3 inch cat back, a 3 inch exhuast cut out, and 3 1/2 inch tips.....and it's loud as hell if the cut out is all the way off....sounds like a NASCAR...lol!
