edelbrock tes headers?
edelbrock tes headers?
I am looking to put a set of headers on my car, and found a edelbrock tes kit that will bolt right up. Has anyone ever used these? Are they any good? If not what should I use?
-thanks
-thanks
They are fantastic, the only ones that are better are the SLP set, but they are over $500. They look, sound and work great, the headers are the best mod I have done so far!

I have had my edlebrock TES headers for over 1 1/2 years. they work great. the only problem is they arent coated and they are brownish/white.. but they have a great sound and flow.

Please see the flaming folder thread in the Aftermarket Products Forum entitled "SLP Headers" for a comparison. My recommendation is to get the SLP's.

Kevin, don't get offended, but why does it seem like every question regarding exhaust has you blasting the TES and pumping up the SLP's? If I didn't know any better I'd swear you worked for SLP. I appreciate your oppinion but tone it down a little. I have the TES and I love 'em. There can't be that much of a difference in flow for you to be putting that much effort into denouncing the Edelbrocks.

Hey, I know a good product when I see it. Edelbrock headers might be cheaper, but you get what you pay for in quality. I'm just warning other thirdgenners about what I feel is an inferior product, compared to SLP's headers. But lets not get into that here. If your only concern is price, then get a set of Flowtech $100 headers.
Kevin's not the only one who thinks Edlebrock headers are ****, Jesters said it countless times in the exhaust forum too. Do a search, both have listed countless problems/defects with TES headers.
https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000177.html
Not my words. Personally I won't buy anything from Edlebrock, but their intake manifolds. I know enough about Edlebrocks "quality" products to know better.

I got Edelbrock's headers and they are JUST FINE. Don't let anyone tell you they are **** because they are NOT. I felt a real SOTP improvement, they were VERY easy to install, and the still look new after two months of having them on the car. SLPS MAYBE better but they're two times the price, not to mention you HAVE to buy their installation kit with them. Some people dont have money trees growing in their backyard!

Sorry, but this is a sore subject with me because I have had real problems with my TES. Small tubes, poor fit, corrosion, poor service, and crappy welded air tubes. Just wish my money went toward SLP's.

I too have Edelbrock TES and I am very happy with them. I had mine coated and they still look like shiny and brand new after 1 1/2 hears and 30,000 miles of all weather driving.
I REALLY like the fact that the coating makes the temperatures very cool under the hood. I can physically touch my headers within 10-15 minutes after a long drive. In fact, at that point, they are actually cooler to the touch than my runners on my TPI. That is how effective the coating is.
On the HP restriction issue, it isn't that much EVEN on a 400 HP motor. In the July 2000 issue of Chevy High Performance, they did a build up a Goodwrench 350 from its baseline of 239 HP to 416 (normally aspirated) and 471 (abnormally asprirated).
They initially installed 1 5/8" headers as one of their first mods. When they were at 402HP, they finally swapped to 1 3/4" headers. The net gain, 7HP.
I guarantee that if they had installed the 1 3/4" before 350HP, there probably would not have been any gain and possibly lost HP if the HP was below 300.
Bigger is not always better, especially when you are under 400HP. But if you PLAN on building over 400HP, then buying the 1 3/4" is wiser, unless you are rich enough to afford buying another set.

I have the edelbrocks and so does my buddy, his are rusting pretty bad after about a year of all season driving, Mine are holding up fine, but they never see salt. If you are going to get the edlbrocks, paint them and the y pipe with a high het paint to ensure long life.........just my thoughts

I agree I have the Edelbrocks on my car and Was very happy with the performance, fit, and finish. I agree with Glenn bigger isnt always better. I have read more than one dyno test, one even showed a set of the 1.5 primaries betting out the 1 5/8 and 1 3/4 set. The larger sets can make more power above 5000. But the loss thru out the rest of the range wasnt worth it. This was a 400+ horse 350 and a 450 horse 406.
One thing I have found from modifying cars and visting this board over the years. There is more than one combination of parts to go fast. Everytime someone has good luck with there combo. They think they have reinvented the wheel or something.

The expense difference between the Edelbrock headers and the SLP is the fact that the SLP headers are made from stainless steel which is a more costly material than plain steel. I have an Edelbrock system on my firebird and enjoy everything about them except the odd exhaust tone they make around 3grand.
As far as rusting,,we've all experienced the black "high heat" coating put on from the factory as being a joke,, and is mainly on to prevent rust while they sit around waiting to be sold (or so it was explained to me) so I invested in a bottle of Cermakrome (under $20) and a hobby airbrush from wal-mart and coated mine and baked them in the oven. They've yet to rust so far.
Bare steel does not stand a chance against the elements tho which is the only advantage to the SLP headers,, by the time a set of Edelbrock headers are jet hot coated,, the extra money paid for it will have almost caught the price of the SLP's. I don't see SLP as being a "superior" header over Edelbrock tho seeing as how they both seem (looking at SLP header pic.) to use a donut gasket to connect the Y-pipes and you can't really make the design too different from anyone else,,,there's just not room to make them better. The Camaro Performance handbook even says the 1¾ are sorta of a PITA to install. It's all a matter of opinion,, sorry mine was so long
