Hooker cat back installation?
Hooker cat back installation?
I'm putting on my catback today one way or another, either by myself or having an exhaust shop do it. My question is on the instructions it says that the car has to be raised 36 inches to install it, I have four jackstands will that be good enough? Or would I be better off having someone do it for me? How much would I probably pay?

I'm waiting on my Hooker Cat Back right now. I got my old one off today. All I used was two homemade ramps that my dad made a long time ago, they aren't that high at all, maybe 7 inches. I got the old one off alright. I drove the back wheels up on the ramp. I might have to use some bigger ramps or my jackstand when I put the system on but I doubt it.

I got it on today, it took about a week on and off because it got cold, today was the first semi-warm day I've had to work on it. I used the little ramps. Hangers and outside conditions were my greatest enemy in the installation.

I've put on 2 Hooker Cat-Backs this past summer, both were easy as 1,2,3. No welding is needed, just a floor jack and maybe some stands (even though I didn't use them). The only problem is the intermediate pipe rests on the part of the rear suspension because the hangers are a little messed up.

dan87iroc doesnt know what hes talkin about. one of the two he mentioned he put on was help with mine it wasnt as easy as one two three. his may have been, but mine wasnt. first the bolts were so rusted we had to cut the intermediate pipe in half. then for some reason the pipe going over the axle didnt quite clear it so when i drove it you could hear the pipe bang a lot. on top of that it was crooked and i couldnt get it straight. the banging also caused it to twice come totally disconnected from the intermediate while driving. after that i had a muffler place weld the sonsabitches together. now it doesnt bang and its straight.

I wouldn't say that the installation is as easy as one two three, but I wouldn't say it all that hard either. I had to use a universal hanger on the passenger side. I don't have any noise of banging from it. Mine has plenty of clearance over the axle, but it does touch part of the suspension, the panhard bar, I don't think that the part it touches moves, or if it does it can't move much because I haven't heard a thing. It is hard to get the stupid thing to line up right. Once I got it all together, it wasn't straight or in the right place. I had to take a rubber hammer and persuade the tailpipes to go where they are supposed to go. Even then after I was finished and put the tips on I found that the driver's side pipe isn't exactly parallel with he car. One of my friend told me how to correct this today, take the tip off put a piece of wood in and pull it straight, it is that far off so it shouldn't crimp the pipe or anything like that.
