Need a Y-pipe...

I have the Hooker competiton shortie headers on my car and had a y-pipe made at midas for the setup for 100 bucks. (3 years ago) I think this crappy y-pipe is costing me ponies and I want a real one from hooker. I have the ones w/out the air injection tubes and I was wondering : SINCE THE SUPERCOMPS ARE ALSO 1 5/8, WILL THAT Y-PIPE WORK????

I'M THINKING OF GETTING THE EDELBROCK SETUP ( WHAT I HAVE ON MY 84') AND JUST PUTTING THAT IN, IT'S A NO HASSLE JOB.

The y-pipe I had made give me optimal ground clearance at the expense of horsepower. The widest piping used is 2 1/4 i.d. and it's 2 inch i.d. right from the collector.

Hooker does not make a y-pipe for their 2460 Competition shorty headers. Why, I don't know. But, the collector and flange design are different on the 2055 Super Competition shorties, so that y-pipe won't work. And they won't sell you the y-pipe separately, anyway.

The only choice is to have a y-pipe custom fabricated. The chain exhaust outlets are probably the worst place to have one made. Your best choice would be to find a performance exhaust shop and have them make one for you. It probably won't be cheap, but the performance would be much better than the TES, and probably 2055's too. If it costs you $250, that's still less than buying a new set of headers.

Having someone else with the proper equipment do the job is always less hassle than doing exhaust work yourself, IMO...

Yeah they would...

If you own any kind of automotive shop, all parts are available separately. If you go to an exhaust shop, most of the time they order the tailpipes, muffler, and intermediate pipe separately. I own a collision shop and if they hassle me I'm gonna tell them that a car ran off the road and screwed the Y-pipe up so I need it separate.

Will the super comp Y-pipe work if I put different collectors on it???

What about the hedman one??? I know I can get that one separately from jegs.

The hedman Y-pipe appears to me like it would work, maybe a bit of modification, but should work, what daya think??

I just had a 2 1/2 y-pipe made yesterday, they way he did it I actually have more ground clearance, exect right at the engine cross member, it hangs about an inch lower than the stock one had.
