80 series on a V6 firebird

i have a 90 3.1 bird and am itching to finally do my exhaust so i called flowmaster about the 80 series muffler. they told me to get the 2.5 inch in/out....which makes sense cause it is only a V6. then they said i would have to get a 2.25" to 2.5" reducer to go from my intermidiate pipe to the muffler, and then get a 2.5" to 2" reducer and run 2" tailpipes because of back pressure and stuff...does that sound right?? And my only question is where can i find 2" tailpipes...i really was looking for the straight chrome tailpipes of the 3" flowmaster. where can i get 2" pipes and these reducers....Rob

yeah, that's the right muffler. however, leave the exits @ 2 1/2". don't bottle down to 2" 2 1/2" lets it breate better, and it will help the car performance wise. Besides 2" tips or no tips looks like pea shooters. go w/ 2 1/2" and 2 1/2" tips. Unless you go three. But that's too "v8ish" I did that.... New hi-flow catalytic convertor, new 2 1/4" pipes(stock size, I wonder why you want to go down to 2") 2 1/2" inlet flowmaster, then opposite side exiting 2 1/2" pipes. Then I finished it off w/ 2 1/2" quad tips. and yeah it's an 80 series muffler. w/ the better breathing, stupid people think it's a 305 @ idle on up to 2500.

just order the 80 series and dont listen to the flowmaster people, i have the 80 series on my 3.1L V6 camaro and when i ordered it they gave me the one with 3 inch inlet....or was it outlet, cant remember, doesnt matter though, any good muffler shop you take it to to get it put on will have the reducers already there to put on for ya, they did it for me for no charge, and you can get those 3 inch chrome pipes at any Pep Boys, thats where i got mine, they're cheap and they look good to.

as for all the piping, a muffler shop should be able to do that for you. Then I went to the local "Fleet Farm" (store) and went and got 2 dual partial slash cut tips (Not a deep angle) and slapped em' on the car. Come spring, I'll go back to the exhaust shop and have em' weld the tips on for good. and maybe they can also weld shut that slight exhaust leak.
