O2 Sensor and Cat
O2 Sensor and Cat
Is it true that a TPI motor won't run right because of the Oxygen sensor if you remove or hollow out the cat?

-80 Camaro 350, Carter AFB, headers, dual exh, ram air, all sorts of crap
-88 Iroc-Z 350tpi, 3.27 gears, 4 wheel disc, MSD 6a, tpi airfoil, k+n's, white gauges, accel coil, flowmaster, pretty quick

i haven't had any problems with it... I don't see why not. they O2 sensor has to do with the air fuel mixture, while the cat has to do with making the exaust clean for mother earth. the cat is kinda separate from the rest of the exhaust, aside from the pipe coming off of the air pump.. i wouldn't worry about it.
but from the emmitions POV i'd say buy a hi-flow

Nope, not true. Mine are gutted (until I have to get emissions tested) and no problems. The O2 sensor is upstream of the cat, so it has no idea whether there is one there or not. Will be puting in new high flow cats (have dual convertor setup)soon though.

And just to further strengthen it, the O2 sensor doesnt care whether you have a cat or not. It works fine either way.
