What sound and performace will H-pipe give me for my true dual setup..?
What sound and performace will H-pipe give me for my true dual setup..?
I have an 86 transam with hooker headers, true duals, and 2 - 2chamber flowmasters.
I don't have an H-pipe though. Am i losing performance? And how will the sound change with a H-pipe if i put one in?

an h-pipe? , it should make your car run smoother and better, because it with make all 8 cylinders run the same back pressure. of what ive heard.

If you mean an H-pipe as opposed to an X pipe. HR did a test on this about awhile ago and the H-pipe made better HP/TQ across the board. My theory behind this is because when you use an X then the exhaust is FORCED to move in along a radius and loose velocity. The H-pipe doesn't force the exhaust into the H-pipe, there has to be enough of a varience in pressures for it to go in their in which case what goes in there will probably loose all velocity and remain there to keep pressure equal and then the rest of the flow of the exhaust will remain normal and act like pressure equaled true duals.

gsmann...go with the H-Pipe. It's proven to improve performance and sound. Every exhaust theory write-up in the car mags I've read have said this. Also Ford uses the system on all their V8 Stangs since 85. I'm sure they did their research. If you look at any feature car with dual exhaust in a mag or race car w/duals it will have some sort of crossover pipe. Dyno test reveal H pipes are better than X pipes. I read your previous posts on your exhaust a few minutes ago and from your description I'm impressed with the job he did in terms of fit/clearance. I wondered why you didn't get an H pipe then. Did they use a mandrel bender or a compression type bender or generic crinkle bent pipe? I would love to see some pics of your exhaust. If you go back and have the H pipe put on (I definately would) would you take a pic when he is done and it's still up on the lift and post it to show the masses that a true dual system can be done. You may want to take a pic from side level to the ground to show that it doesn't hang down. I'm tired of people slamming those who use dual exhausts. I think this would shut them up and give many of us who want to do it an idiot- proof pic we can print and take to our local shop and have them copy it. Thanks. Dwain Brammer aka "Draino"
