Having trouble with your SLP 1 3/4" headers rubbing? Possible solution inside...
This is so simple it's stupid. All the crazy rumors, motor mounts this, motor mounts that... it boils down to one thing.
Move the steering column.
That's right. Three bolts at the bottom of the steering column and the firewall, and two under the dash. Loosen them all. Grab the steering wheel and pull it all the way to the left. Go under the hood and use a screwdriver or something between the header and the steering shaft and shove them apart. Bingo, instant clearance.
Tighten bolts and drive away.
Of course, if you're as unlucky as I generally am, you'll need to oval out the holes on the steering column where it bolts to the firewall. No big deal, really. That sheet metal is so flimsy it really only serves the purpose of holding the steering solumn in more or less the right spot on the firewall. The two bolts under the dash are the load bearing ones.
Can you believe it? All this bull**** and it's this ****ing simple, or at least it was for me. If you've EVER had your steering column out of the car, this might be your problem! Mine was all the way to the right. It needs to be all the way to the left. No wonder my problem was worse than everyone else's.
HTH someone!
