i'm in the middle of deciding on which series of hooker header to go with, the 2, prolly most popular ones, competition and the super competition.

now on the hooker website they say that the comp headers can be ordered with the AIR stuff but aren't emissions legal, whereas the super comps are emissions legal.

the other thing is that they say the super comps are only for 86-90. now whats the difference between a 90 and a 92 (mine is a 92 Z28)?

also can the super comps connect right up to the stock exhaust system? i'm guessing it can't

so if anyone can clear anything for me between the 2 that would be most appreciated.

I don't think the comps come with a y pipe, the super comps do though.

 

well the y pipe isnt a big deal since i have the dual cat setup, so i wouldn't be using the supplied y pipe with the supers, unless modified to work.

my biggest concern would probably be the emissions deal.

as far as i know the "visual" is to see if there are cats on the car, other than that, nothing so i did be good that way.

i plan on redoing the entire system, probably with duals, but not entirely sure of that yet, i have the winter months to decide on that issue.

Competition headers ( w/o a.i.r. fittings )...



A custom 'y-pipe' would have to be made which, in your case, would have to be done anyways. The flanges are also the same as a longtube header, 3" and a 3 bolt together flange.
I believe the Super Comps, that have the 'y-pipe' included, have a 'donut' style flange (similar to the factory manifolds.. don't quote me on that either).
The thing about emissions legal is just the fact that there is no c.a.r.b. exemption number (wasn't applied for or they didn't feel like paying for one) for them, it doesn't exactly mean that they wouldn't pass an emissions test.

 

Comps with the special order A.I.R. pipes might be a good way for you to go. They won't fit your factory exhaust pipes, but you could have the pipes fabricated/modified by an exhaust shop to get them hooked up to the headers.

Better get your order in for the headers now. Who knows how long the 0-2460 will take to get. You might also consider ordering them from Jet Hot so you can take advantage of ceramic coating as well. More expensive, but I've never heard anyone regret it. Heard plenty who have regretted not doing it (and you can add me to that list).

Oh, the 2055 Super Comps have a metal tag welded on the #1 primary tube with the CARB cert #. The Comps won't have that, but I doubt you'll get any objections from the Smog ***** if you have A.I.R., O2, and all of the other required smog equipment.

 

I'm 20 years old and I have yet to have an experience with a hooker! Dont plan on it either!

 

Nobody mentioned the super comps that have the slip fit collectors that point toward the pass. side of the car.
Only drawback 1 1/2 primaries 2 1/2 collectors.

 

Hey deadbird....where did you get that stuff your coating those headers with??? Im about to pickup a set of edelbrock TES headers and id like to sandblast them and coat them....looks like yours turned out very well. how much is that stuff and where did you get it??

Not to confuse the issue, but if you are running dual cats the Hooker part number you should try to get is P/N 2056. You will probably only be able to get this directly from Holley because Hooker never got this part number into a catalog. Holley bought Hooker at the time this product came out, and in the transition this part got lost between the cracks. If you can get someone to look into it you should be able to get this part. They had a run of them in the warehouse. This part is similar to the 2055, but rather than a Y-pipe it comes with two headpipes to hook up to the factory cat. It is CARB legal.
As far as using P/N 0-2460, it cannot be California legal, but in other states, if equipment hook-up is all that is required, you could get by with those. The 2460 has an O2 fitting welded on the collector which you would have to drill out, and the 0-2460 would include the AIR provisions.
