new headers , now it backfires

new headers , now it backfires

ok , i installed edelbrock headers, Now my car backfires through the tbi, wtf caused this, how do i fix it ANY suggestions or ideas???????????

You shouldn't have touched your timing to install headers, so I don't see why it would backfire now. The headers didn't cause it.

im saying, i didnt, not to my knowledge, ...didnt touch the cap. i hope its my wires are messed up....ill go check at daybreak. which is in an hour....

Any time you have backfiring through the intake means your firing order is wrong. And since you had to remove the wires to put on the headers...

that's not right, there are other factors that cause it, but it does make sense that he crossed some wires up.

though, once when i crossed some up i had a backfire thru the exhaust, but check those wires

I hate to get petty, but yes, it is right Any time you have a backfire in the intake, your ignition is not firing when the piston is at or near TDC on the compression stroke. The backfire is caused from the A/F lighting off with the intake valve open. The only other thing that could cause it is a distributor a tooth or two off. And since all he did was remove the wires...

backfiring can be caused by a lean condition too, ex, timing problesm, choke misadjusted.

also, burnt/cracked wires have done it to me before.


but you're right,with what he has done, i'd check the routing again

well guess what...yall were right! redid the plugs, ....stil didnt work, redid em again, worked perfectly !!! thanks for all your help. header install complete!! also had to replace the damn battery after it was done, guess my car wanted more work done:hail: :rockon: :rockon:
