Can you powdercoat Headers??

I have a set of Hooker Headers on my 87 Trans Am and right now they are not coated. I'm pulling the heads off and would like to have the Headers Powdercoated. Will the powder coating last on headers? Does anyone here have powder coated headers? Thanks, Jason

Well yes and no. I had my old Mustang headers powerder coated for free with standard powerder coat and they mostly chipped and flaked. If you use a good hi-temp coating they will last forever though.

Just think... the powercoat is cured with only 400 degrees of heat.

Thanks, Jason

Typical powder coating that is used in shops or the home kits sold by Eastwood are baked on at 400 degrees. Headers get hotter than that and will melt the powder coating off. Proper coating is ceramic based and will withstand the heat of an exhaust system.

You can powdercoat every other part of the engine including the block and heads if you want with no problems. My Harley engine is completely powdercoated.
