Hooker Headers w/Y-Pipe
Hooker Headers w/Y-Pipe
I plan on purchasing the Hooker Shorty Headers that come with the y-pipe for our cars. I have a few questions though:
1. Will it bolt up to any 3" Cat?
2. Does it include all of the hardware and gaskets?
3. How loud will it be with the headers, a high flow cat, and the Hooker cat back?
Thanks.

If you're talking about their 2055 headers, then I can answer your questions.
1) The Y-pipe will only fit the '86-92 3" single-cats with the slip-fit connection at the front.
2) They included bolts and gaskets, but I used Stage 8 bolts and copper SCE gaskets. No leaks so far (once I put the gaskets in the right way).
3) It'll be sound really good with that combination. I have a Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back and it was somewhat loud with a gutted cat and sounded great. With a Random Tech cat, it's a little quieter (doesn't wake up my daughter now when I leave for work) but still sounds wonderful.
AFA results, I dropped a couple tenths and picked up 1-2 mph in the 1/4 mile. I can definitely feel the increased torque throughout the rev-band, at least from 2000 rpm and up. Spinning my tires became even easier.

Thanks for the info. I have an 84 Camaro, but I am putting in a 350 TPI and a new exhaust system. The headers will fit, even though it's an 84, right? (I ask because I assume that the years they are referring to are just for the size of the cat, but I'm not sure). Will they fit on a 3" Dynomax Super Converter? I don't know if they are slip fit. What other choices do I have for cats? I can't find any 3" cats at Summit or Jeg's besides the Dynomax. Thanks.

Summit also carries Catco. They don't list it specificly in the catalog, but with the p/n, you can find it on the web site.
JCW's high-flow cats are Catco, also.

These Hooker headers (#2055) will fit your '84, but you'll need to replace the cat with a 3" slip-fit model (like one from Random Tech or any other model for '86-92 TPI single-cat F-bodies). I think the connection between the back of the cat and the intermediate pipe (cat-back) is different too, so you'll either need to buy the right cat-back exhaust or have an exhaust shop modify your existing pipe.
