Exhaust with hooker long tubes
Exhaust with hooker long tubes
I have the headers on, but the only thing I have to judge by is my 3" colector extensions. It appears that at least if I was to run 3" straight back it would hit the crossmemeber on the drivers side but I could clearance it. On the passenger side however it will hit the frame. If I run 2.5 will I have this problem? I know the guys with the headmans have been running the s extensions and I thought you didnt have to with hookers. I need to know if the 2.5 will clear without the s extensions or not.
Thanks

Momar, I just got my Hooker 2210's and have not installed them yet. Did you just follow the instructions that came with them or did you find some shortcuts or pitfalls?
Well, I dont think I got the instructions with them. I ordered them direct from jet hot. I believe that the instructions tell you to put them in from the bottom which I have heard works pretty well, but I had the motor out so I just lowered the motor between the headers and then bolted them on. Here is a link to the post right after I installed them a couple of weeks ago. https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ostid=1007620#

i keep on replayin TRAXION's video and just love the sound.
also quick question Momar. how much were the headers direct from Jethot? and with shipping also? if ya could let me know thanx.
becuz ive been just lookin in jegs day in and day out and waitin to get the money to get those headers but i dont know if it would cost the same from jegs to have them sent and coated or just get them from jethot directly.

sweet, do u have the web address to the jethot site or is it like jethot.com or something? becuz thats cheaper then when i priced it from jegs last yr or earily this yr i forget. becuz when i totaled it , it was like 632.xx for the coated headers from jegs.
I was just looking under my car and think I am going to get the s extensions because even if I dont need them I think it will put them closer to where I want them to run along the driveshaft tunnel. I think with 2.5" pipe I will be able to get pretty good ground clearance.

I had the exhaust shop modify my Mufflex Y-pipe so it would fit. Man - it sounds sweet now. I'll get some video of the completed project when I get a chance and I'll snap some pics the next time I put it up on the lift.

I have the 2210's on my car, ground clearance is the biggest issue. I have the Eiabach Pro kit, I'm seriously considering some stock front springs so I don't bash up my headers everytime I drive the car. For my exhaust solution, I ran Car Chemistry collector insert mufflers. Then I have a round to oval transition that goes into oval exhaust tubing that ends about a foot before the rear axle. It tucks under the car nice, the headers actually hang lower than the exhaust. But, be forewarned... it is very loud.
If you were to make the pipe I have round again - it would be equivalent to 2.5" round pipe. I have an "H" crossover currently. I'm going to try and find some madrel bends the same thickness as my oval pipe, split it and add in a section on both side so it is oval. Then - hopefully I can fab up an "X" pipe to see if it's really worth it or not. My buddy's 95' GT picked up about 1 MPH avg. in trap speed swapping from an "H" to an "X". I'm curious to see if it does anything for my car.

My car with the exhaust hooked up: http://www.celligent.com/tim/iroc/movies/lts.wmv (2.2mb)
The movie of the LTs didn't come out as I expected. I still need to do some tuning and adjust my TB plates (still haven't done that yet). It was idling higher than normal due to having them open too far. Plus, the camcorder was at a distance and I don't think it did a great job at really reproducing how it sounds. I'll get a better example later on in about a month or so. I just did this quickly because I was putting the car back into the garage for the winter and wanted to capture something.

does mufflex offer a 3in y pipe and not a 4in? becuz im gettin those headers for my 305 that im building up piece by piece and well i dont want a huge y pipe that will kill my performance. and i also wanna hook it up to my hooker muffler from the cat back, so the 3in would be alot beter then the 4in.
oh yeah i didnt read ur sig first, i bet it would of helped if i did

The Mufflex Y-pipe is a dual 3" into a 4". However, you can order a 4"-to-3" adapter that will allow you to mate the y-pipe to a 3" catback exhaust. That is exactly what I did. Also - Long Tube 1-3/4" headers on a 305 is way overkill. Do you eventually have plans to do a bigger motor?

i thought the hooker long tubes where 1 5/8 and not 1 3/4? also im not sure if ill upgrade to a 350 or bigger motor any time soon. becuz after xmas i plan on doin a cam swap, port and polish heads, maybe new intake if i can afford it, and the hooker long tubes and then the mufflex y pipe back into my hooker cat back muffler. and i have a Nos superpower shot nitrous kit in my garage i wanna hook up if i get a new intake but if i dont it will wait longer till i get money for the new nitrous plate for te spreadbore intake.

Hooker Super Comp. Long Tube headers are 1-3/4". the Super Comp Shorties are 1-5/8". The regular competition headers are also 1-5/8"

are sure they are hookers and not hedman's. Hedman headers have a set of 1-5/8" long tubes. I believe Mark Shields will be using these headers in his car soon.
nope there hooker headers abecuz those were the onlyone i was checkin out before and notice the price for cermaic coated was 652.xx for the 1 3/4 and was like wow thats a crap load.

so which hookers did you see with 1-5/8" and how long are they in length? The shorties are about 15" and the long tubes are 30" so its pretty easy to tell what you're getting by looking at the length. The only long tube header made for the 82-92 camaro by hooker, is the super comps. They are 1-3/4" primary with 30" length. Forget the ceramic coating, jet hot is cheaper and looks 10x better and suppose to last.

Just to correct everone hooker makes sc long tubes in other sizes other than 1 3/4. They even make some that are 1 1/2. Not that anybody would want them but they do make them.
check them out if you don't belive me

looks like only 1-3/4" and 1-1/2", but no 1-5/8" in full length. The 2055's are shorties from what i remember. I never knew they made 1-1/2" full length. I guess thats for you all 305 guys that want full length headers.

Side Shot.......
Here's a side shot of the Mufflex Y-pipe. The wrap on driver side collector is to protect the plastic clutch slave cylinder from heat. No fires allowed!
As far as the plastic slave cylinder we just changed my brothers on his 91 world class t-5 when changing the clutch this weekend. The one we took off was plastic, but the replacement one from advanced auto parts was metal. I thought that was kind of odd but it works fine.

Sooner,
Yep, the tranny cross member was notched a bit, not too much, to clear the 3" pipes. Piece of cake to do with a grinder.
Yep, it's a 5-speed too.
I can clearly feel, and hear the difference between shorty headers and tuned LT headers, after all, I have both currently, one set each on my two IROCS. The LTs are far superior in sound and performance.
Good Luck!
