Early model heads + 3rd generation headers???
Early model heads + 3rd generation headers???
I'm looking seriously at an '87 IROC-Z that has a bad motor, but otherwise complete.
The car has Edelbrock TES jet hot headers with MAC 3" exhaust. The heads with the motor i'll be putting in are from 70's (double hump style which i'm sure most of you are familiar with).
Will these headers work with the heads i'm using?? I'll be pulling the TPI and all smog equipment.
Thanks

Yes they should bolt right up to the double hump heads.

The headers will work fine. The problem is when you used older heads with the 3rd Gen stock exhaust manifolds. The older heads do not have the extra exhaust bolt hole that the manifolds need.

the concern when it comes to headers and heads is angle plug vs stait plug, intake bolt patern, and accessory holes. tpi intake will not work on the heads you describe. if you have angle plug and you move to strait plug you may have hard time changing your plugs. made this mistake on my chevelle. put trickflow heads on (witch are angle plug) headers were made for strait plug so I had to buy the short plugs and it was still a hard to get to them. it was easier to un bolt the hearder to change the plugs. I think the accesory holes should be drilled in those heads though if they are from 70
