Looking for quiet, high performance, and inexpensive exhaust.
I'm looking for something quiet (near stock), with good performance, and relatively inexpensive catback for my '91 RS (V8) single cat. Something bolt-on would be great.
I know the borla's are good but they may be a little over the top in $$$ for me. What else is there? I want to keep it under $350. On top of this, I'll also get a cut-out and catco cat.
Where can i find the best price for whatever product you recommend?

Dynomax makes some good cat-back exhaust systems for your car and I think most of them are under $250. Most people also complain about them being too quiet, but for those of us with wives who don't like a loud exhaust this is good. Check out www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com and I'm sure you'll find one. Hope this helps.
I'm also looking for something which looks stock, or not too showy. Dynomax has a system for my car for $150, which is perfect, thanx JETHROIROC. Coupled with the CATCO and cut-out, my system will cost only $233.
But how does it look? By the picture, it looked pretty much like the stock exhaust, which is preferable.

SLP! $350. All stainless steel. Sounds close to stock (except at WOT). Straight flow muffler..need I say more?

Since you are concerned with cost I will tell you this secret.
Use a single exit muffler.
To keep it quiet simply use a smaller diameter tailpipe out of the muffler like a 2.25 or 2.5" tailpipe. This will let you run any exhaust you want to that point and still be very quiet. Of course you would need a cutout to get the performance.
Cutouts are cheap too but can become a pain.
Good news,
a local engineer friend of mine has designed and produces his own electric exhaust cutout for 3" pipe. I will attempt to post a picture here and the link as well in case it doesn't work.
good luck

Cool, I was thinking of designing something similar to that. My design looks a little simpler, but i don't know how well it works since i have yet to do it. How much would it cost for me to get my hands on one of those cutouts?
BTW, will i lose any torque with a dynomax exhaust set up, or any other freeflowing exhaust for that matter?

I was on the phone with Barry from empire motorsports who was very helpful. I went ahead and ordered one and it should be here in a few weeks. He said the first 50 were sold like hot cakes, and he's already shipped the first half of the second batch! Looks like a lot of people want these! Hehe

Actually, I have redesigned the seal so that it works much like a door jamb. So far,
the people that have installed them, they really like them. One guy backed into a
curb with his and ruined it, and another guy yanked the connectors off by pulling on
them to get the wires through the firewall. Other than that, people seem to like the
adjustability on the seals.

Well I'm dissapointed with mine. It only lasted one day on the car, and then it self destructed in little pieces that got stuck in my muffler and now they're rattling inside it. Apparently the shaft was too weak and it broke, taking everything with it except the main plate. Now Empire sent me new parts, but it's a bitch to adjust the seals. Now I got it back toghether and I wonder how well it's gonna hold up this time. I'll post my results tomorrow when I bolt it on.
