borla on 3rd gen vs SLP loudmouth on 4th gen

my freind says the slp loudmouth on his 2001 firehawk will be louder than my borla on my 87 iroc with the plate taken out (straight exhaust). Im installing it this weekend and want to know if i have a chance at beating him in a soundoff. Just to drive the deans at our school nuts.

I have never heard the slp loudmouth but I have the borla and with the plate out it is loud. too loud you would get pulled over if you got on it with a cop around. his car might sound better though.

Does he have any work done to the Firehawk? The loudmouths are pretty loud.

BEEN THERE!!!!! NOBODY HAS EVER BEATEN ME ON A SOUND OFF!!! I have the Borla Cat Back with the plate wide open along with a catalytic converter and SLP Headers. Trust me, you will scare the **** out of people when you rev that thing! This thing is gonna be very loud!!!! I also run an exhaust cut off before the catalytic converter, and the sound is pretty close to the Borla wide open. Email me for a sound clip.

I know the SLP Loud Mouth is very loud, but i've heard louder For instance, my friends Borla Cat-back with a gutted cat and full length headers...now that was loud.

If both cars had the stock exhaust in front of the catback, the LS1/Loudmouth would be louder. The stock cat on your '87 quiets it down a lot as does the small manifolds/y-pipe. If either car had headers it would be louder. I have a Loudmouth on my '98, sounds very NASCAR at 6200 rpm

98_1LE,
You stated, "If both cars had the stock exhaust in front of the cat back, the LS1/Loudmouth would be louder. " Of course the LS1 would be louder, just look at the motor and the exhaust system it has compared to an 87. If I had an LS1, I wouldn't need to have a Borla (I’ve had it since 92.) I currently have my Borla on my 92RS and just installed my 1 5/8 SLP headers last week. With both combos' they are pretty loud. Have a 3"in and 3" out Catco catalytic converter from summit but will wait to install until new motor is built. I had planned to install the SLP headers when I built my motor but just couldn't resist the temptation to install it onto the RS.

86z/92rs - I was just trying to answer the original question and add in the headers comment based on the other responses. The original poster has a stock L98 and didn't mention headers. I think we are in agreement

FYI, the LoudMouth is a straight through catback. The "resonator" is simply a foot of the intermediate pipe that swells from 3" to 4". Not only can you shine a light through it, but you can stick your arm through it.
