Whats the best way to run dual exhaust?
simple,
pull out your interior and carpet.
cut out the drivers-side floorboard,
cut out the dips in the floor under the back seats.
flip the sheetmetal over, or modify so as to make room for the pipes and mufflers, and weld back into place.
construct a new transmission crossmember that allows room for the pipes to tuck up near the floor.
run the duals straight back towards the axle yourself (no shop required). In fact you should never need the help of an exhaust shop again for any modifications to the pipes since everything is straight.

ODB told you the best. The easiest is to drive to the local exhaust shop and pay the man.
I have dual exhaust - Hooker full length, X-pipe and a pair of Dynomax Bullets on each side of the trunk- to do it I use a dual "hump" crossmember and a set of ladder bars- the pipes go over the axle on each side - on the driver's side I relocated the rear brake line splitter slightly to the left.
Its up to you as to whats best- look under the car and decide which way you want to run the pipes and mufflers and determine what you have to modify to create space to do it-

ok I have changed my mind I think I might run a single 3" pipe all the way back if I can find the bend that goes over the rear end the muffler shop said that he could not bend 3" over the axel because it would "kink" so he told me to get a prebent pipe does anyone know where I can get that prebent pipe in a 3"?

What size exhaust are you running? How's your ground clearance over an average speed bump, etc. I'm ready to do the exhaust system on my car and I'm trying to get some ideas. I will have the Hooker Supercomp big block headers. I already have a full 3" flowmaster single system and I was thinking I could just use if for the right side exhaust. Choosing a path for the left side has turned out to be a tough job! If I can't get a 3" dual system under the car with decent ground clearance then I'm simply going to use a 4" single.
I have 2.5in pipes - most of my exhaust is made from 2.5in 16 guage mandrel U-bends from Jegs- including the X-pipe- I got great clearance the lowest part of my system is the Hooker headers-
To run a 3in pipe on the dr side of the tunnel you need to modify or remove the Panhard Rod Bracket Support Rod, relocate the brake line splitter , run ladder bars - I have a set that goes in the stock location using LCA relocation brackets and the stock LCA rear mount hole to create two mounting points for the rear end of the ladder bars- I tried to do it with the Torque arm rear sus and couldn't - maybe the Trak Link from global west will offer more room - that done run the dr side pipe like the pass side - now to go under the cross member you'll need a double hump type cross member or flatten the pipe in that area- a nice big flattend x-pipe would be cool- joking but?
I'll develop the pics asap and post em

dont give up on dual exhaust yet. i have dual ex on my 85. no special x pipes or any of that crap. Just follow the exsisting pipe path with 2 1/4 pipe stacked on top of eatch other then run glaspacks one straight out and bend the other pipe into an _l shape wtih a glasspack at the end.

That's what I was thinking of doing... piggybacking the duals through the existing path for the exhaust. But how did you do it? What did you use to hold both in place, or did you put them side by side?

I have dual 3in under my car because I could not afford single 4. It runs just like any other car with duals (pipes running down either side of the tranny tunnel, mufflers under back seats). I did ever so slightly pound up the rear floorboards, but not enought to even notice from the top. As long as you keep you head out of your A$$ and drive like you have some since over speed bumps and such you will have no problems.
