changing exhaust tone
I just got a 3" single exhaust put on my car (2.5" into the y), full length, no cat, 40 series flowmaster, single out the back. I've got flowtech headers on the 355. And i'm pissed. My exhaust is SOOO much quieter than it was with open headers. But, it's not quiet enough, I honestly would like it to be to the point where i can't tell if it's started or not. I know i probally go against the grain here, but i'd like my car to be quiet without further restricting the flow of the exhaust gasses, or atleast with minimal restriction. I spent 400 on an exhaust that sounds tough as ****, and if i was just showing it off all the time, i'd love it, but sometimes i don't want to listen to my car. How do i quiet the beast down?

well, the 40 series flowmaster muffler is one of the loudest, if not the loudest, flowmaster makes. flowmaster makes quieter mufflers. i hear dynomax can be quiet. flowtech warlocks have some sort of adjustable thing....forgot all the specs, but you can find it on their site. theres lots of other options.

this is the description for the warlocks..(I like)
Flow Tech’s unique bypass design enables you to remove a plate at the rear of the muffler for straight through flow. High flow, low restriction three pass tube design controls sound in street configuration. Ribbed, fully welded 16-gauge steel case with no fiberglass or seams to blow out. Case Size: 5''H x 10''W x 13''L.
they seem nice but i dunno how loud they would be.. be easy to uncap that for sure
oh and heres a pic of one

I would use a different muffler before doing anything else and seeing if that gives you the results you want. Another thing I've heard of is putting a dynomax bullet or glasspack muffler where the cat would be. Just having a cat on there would quiet it down quite a bit also. I've heard from people on this message board that the warlocks don't flow worth a @#$% capped, so you almost need to open them up if you ever want to get any decent hp. But i guess if you only want it to run at its best at the strip than go for.

I hear some of the dynomax mufflers can be quiet, not sure of the exact model.
I understand where you're coming from.
