3" Exhaust kick A$@

Just got my 89 formula out of the muff shop. Had them put one solid 3" pipe back into a 3" flowmaster and damn the power is back. The guy at the shop said it would not get enough back pressure?????? I guess he was wrong. So does anyone have any other little mods I can do or have done as far as exhaust goes besides headers. Oh ya by the I have no CAT.

Thanks

There probably isn't as much lower RPM TQ as it had, but u most likely didn't notice this because of the higher RPM HP that it added.

Looking For:

The car I want.

84 TRANS AM 305 H.O.
Another car that would be OK to own while I still look for the IROC-Z!!

sounds like your tapped on exhaust mods unless you went dual. I know what you are saying with the confusion about back pressure
from removing the cat. The way i look at that is "If back pressure helps so much people wouldnt buy headders they would leave stock ex manifols on and they would not buy high flow cats." If cats helped low end power stricly off road 4x4s would use them right? a 4x4 only turns idle-2500 to climb a hill. Have you ever seen a off road 4x4 with a cat?
what im getting at is the cat confusion is BS
my bud with a HO mustang had his dynoed before and after cat removal and he gained tq and HP. Just glad to hear that im not alone in the anti catalitic converter fight

I think that removing your cat wouldn't necessarily cause a loss of low end unless your pipe diameter was too large.Removing the cat and having the right size piping could get you a gain in both.Go too big on the piping and you lose low end power. This is how off road vehicles run without cats or mufflers. It's got to do with pipe size and it's relation to flow.

If you put a new high flow cat on a car the HP/TQ differance will be about -1%(lose power)to 2%(gain) but if you take off a 2001-1989=12 year old cat. That cat was probably messed up.
