mufflex 4" exhaust?

Does anybody have this or know anything about it? I called out to the mufflex office to get a brochure and some info and the guy was kind of a jerk. He told me to go online, so I did and over the last 6 months there web site hasen't worked. I'd really like some info and possibly a sound take if anybody has one. Thanks...

I have the 4" Mufflex system. It fit reasonably well, and is of pretty good quality. It sounds extremely tough. It's pretty loud if you don't run cats. It's pretty loud, period. It's got a real deep rumble at idle and screams when you get on it. NASCAR style. I think you talk to someone in the shop if you call there. They are usually busy and frustrated. Try calling at another time of day. I'd make a sound clip but am unsure what to record it with. A very impressive system.

I've been looking into this exhaust system, and I believe that it is right below $500 from Mufflex. The 3.5" system is $450 for the single cat cars, and $425 for the dual cats. The website has worked for me the past couple days, they have some sound bytes (but not of the single 3.5" or 4" for the third gen). http://www.mufflex-performance.com

Oh, and the muffler is either a Flowmaster Racing muffler (not sure what series), or a Spintech muffler, it's your choice, same price. I'd like to hear the difference between the two personally, but I think the Flowmaster would be a little bit quieter...

So when you mount the exhaust on your car is there somekind of a choke on the part that connects to your cat? or do you need to find a high flow cat that is say 2 1/2 in and 4" out? I've got the Edelbrock TES system on there right now and I believe the Y-pipe connects into a single 2.5 collector. You wouldn't happen to have any pics would you? On a 1-10 scale where would you rate the system as a whole, ease of install and sound? I know that sounds like alot but I'm very interested in this and $500.00 aint cheap. Thanks for all of your help...

One more thing, can you even hear your stereo with that system installed? How bad in the resenance inside the car? Both idle and WOT

AVD1, I noticed in your sig that you are running the RPM Air Gap and Vortec heads. How close is the top of the carb to the top of the hood? I'll be using the same set up with a tbi and a 1/2" adapter plate so I was just curious as to hood clearance problems. I expect mine will probably hit the hood without the air cleaner on, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I have 1.75" SLP headers made for a dual cat car. At the ends of the two pipes, I have Flowmaster Venturi Cone 2.5" to 3" adapters. This is to a Flowmaster y-pipe with dual 3" inlets and one 4" outlet. The rest is stock Mufflex. The mufflex is 4" all the way up to about the transmission. It then steps down to a 2.5" or 3" pipe to attach to the cats. To really get the full benefits of a large exhaust, you may want to eliminate some of the bottlenecks.

As far as sound on a scale of 1 to NASCAR, I would have to say NASCAR. 10. It sounds bad. Bad as in good, of course. It shakes the windows in my house at idle. Idle is a great low rumble. It gets pretty loud when you step on it. I can listen to my stereo and talk to my friends without yelling. I've driven it to Florida twice and multiple other long trips. No complaints. Interior resonance is pretty bad in my car, but I also have everything solid mounted. That is soon to change. Multiple people have asked if I have a big block in my car.

Overall, quality 1 to 10, 9. Pretty nice. The muffler is a 4" in/out 2-chamber (40 series?). I'd like to see/hear their new dual 4" out Spintech system.

Steve, htere is actually a story behind the ol air gap thing. I returned it, When I bought it there was no picture availablr and the schmo who sold it to me told me it would owrk with a Rochester Quadrajet(spread bore) well guess what...it doesn't and they don't make one either. I do however use the Edelbrock Performer RPM unit and I do like it but I really wanted that air gap manififold for that "COOLness" factor.

I really can't answer your question on hood clearance as I'm using a 2 1/4 Cowl induction hood. I can say this though, with the Performer RPM, the carb and a 4"tall K&N open element air filter on top I have about a 1/2 inch clearance to the bottom of the hood.

My problem now is that I want to put a 1" carb spacer in there to see what that does to help my bottom end torque. So I'm going to have to get a 3" tall filter to replace the 4" in order to fit.

3RDGENFRANK: Thank you so much for your help on this exhaust delema I had. I have made up my mind and I'm going to get this unit. I will have to see what I can do to get rid of some of those bottlenecks you were talking about. I really want to keep my cat to make everything work right and so I'm going to have to do some fancy plumbing. Thanks again!

Random technology makes a 4" cat if you are interested. Otherwise, two 2.5" or 3" cats will probably do the trick. I will put cats on my car as soon as I'm done tuning. I didn't want kill new cats while I dial in the motor. Cats also make the exhaust sound even deeper and a little more civilized. Good luck!

AVD, I kinda thought you had a cowl hood or something like that. I will have to figure out witch way to go when I cross that road. I want to make a shaker type hood scoop. Maby a cowl hood scoop converted to a shaker. Would that look to stange or just stupid? I'll have to do something, I just don't want something everybody else has if I don't have too.

bad camaro RS:

How much ground clearance do those Hooker long tubes eat up? I like how you've got that setup run, and I like long tube headers, but I'm afraid they'll just eat up way too much ground clearance...

Also, don't they make a 1 5/8" Competition (not Super Comp)? I wonder if they have the same ground clearance issues...

Thanks
