catalytic converter
catalytic converter (help please)
Just because I'm female I feel like I get the shaft. All I want to know is if removing the catalytic converter will hurt anything. I would like to have them put a pipe in it's place. Also can they take off the hood insulation to make room for the aftermarket air cleaner? Please be kind with your answers "remarks" Thank You

Who is "they", cause i know most places wont touch the converter if u want to remove it. The best i can get was they at least made me a 2 foot pipe with expanded flanges on each side with clamps which was cool.
This was for my 93 Grand Prix. As far as hurting it, not really. You'll probably gain some power, but it might be very little, it depends on so many factors. And your in Michigan, so i dont think u got to worry about emission tests either. Your car will be louder for sure, so if that dont bother u then its good.
Not to sure about your year, but it might have an O2 sensor somewhere there around the converter, not sure, maybe someone here can further help.

a popular remove is the air pump. the tube goes into the cat.
so removing the cat and putting a straight pipe in its place you are not really using that tube from the air pump so simply remove it and depending on what kinda belt setup you have to get a new belt most likely.

as far as taking off the cat you wouldn't harm anything on it
worst case is you might need to drill a hole in the new pipe and have a bung ( a nut for the most part) welded on the new pipe to hold the 02 sensor
you will be a little louder since the cat does act as a muffler also but the better flow will make up for it and it sounds better IMHO anyway
as far as other equip I will get back to you on that

on my 91, the o2 sensors are in the y-pipe. for a wile i had the exhaust comming straight out the cat. was pretty loud but popped and **** wen you decelerate. i cut off the cat and put a turndown on the y-pipe. holy crap it sounded like a freaking tractor. so i went and put a 15$ turbo thrush muffler on it. its my ghetto setup--- y pipe, thrush, then a turndown, and thats it. sounds ok, i guess, no it sounds like crap, but everyone asks me where i got my exhaust done, and im like...ooook. i guess they thnk it sounds good, but im tired of it. i hope to get some headers. not sure wether to get longtubes and run duals or shortys and use a y pipe.
