Should I install the headers before I throw in the new motor?
Should I install the headers before I throw in the new motor?
I am putting in a rebuilt 355 motor, and this may sound like a dumb question, but should I install my Hooker Shorty Headers onto the motor and then put it in? I will probably have the tranny attached to the motor prior to the motor installation, but I'm not sure yet. Thanks for the help.

I would settle the engine into the car first, although side to side movment would be minimal while lowering into the car,the headers might still touch, less room for error that way. just an idea,I've never actually done it so I can't tell you if it's really all that hard to hoist it in with the headers. just use your best judgement.
I think the best way to do it would be to tie the headers sort of in place in the engine bay with some wire or rope before you lower the engine in. Then, drop the engine in, and bolt the headers to it. This is best done before you put the bolts through the engine mounts, in case you have to raise or reposition the motor for any reason. I've never tried with the headers already attached to the engine, but it doesn't look like it would work to me. I know this other method works just great though. Good luck.

I bolted on the passenger side spark plugs and header, then lowered the engine into the car. After that I attached the driver's side header and spark plugs.
