Dynomax Headers and Cat-Back

OK guys -

I was looking through Jegs today, and noticed the Dynomax Street Series Shorty Headers were only $289.99 with the Y-Pipe (PN 289-88705). So, I decided to check into if they were 1 5/8" or 1 1/2". Anybody know? If they are 1 5/8", I think that's what'll be going on my car...

Also, the Dynomax cat-back is only about $160, is this PN 289-17495 a 3" exhaust, going into the muffler with 2.5" outlets? Can't find any info on this either. I really need at least 1 5/8" headers, and at least a 3" exhaust, and I like the Dynomax price...

Otherwise it's back to the $650 Hooker Super Comp Shorty and Flowmaster 3" plan...

Thanks guys

Well, after searching all over the place, I finally just called Dynomax tech support. Their website is pretty crappy, couldn't find any real technical info on the headers or exhaust. But anyway, the tech line was great, wasn't on hold for more than 30 seconds.

Anyway, the headers are 1 5/8" primaries , but the exhaust is only 2.5" . So, I think that unless I find another good sounding exhaust that's in a 3" size, I'll go with the Dynomax headers and Flowmaster single 3" exhaust.

Anyone have experience with the Dynomax headers, I just can't seem to give up on them with that price...

RoadRacin85z,

I was looking at those same headers and I was wondering what size the collectors are. Did they happen to tell you that? I would guess 2 1/2". Then I could buy a Flowmaster Y-collector (PN 389-Y250300A) and have it welded in place of the Dynomax collector. It has 2 - 2 1/2" inlets and 1 - 3" outlet but it doesn't have the bend to the cat in it. It's probably about the same cost to buy a SLP or Edelbrock kit by the time you add all that up, parts and labor. That way you could get a 3" cat to match the whole system. Seek and ye shall find, right? I'm sure a local corner shop could fabricate something up for me.

No, they didn't tell me what size the collector was, I didn't really ask. I didn't think about that. Maybe I'll call again and find out. I couldn't find any dynomax stuff at all on summitracing.com. They usually have their tech stuff covered a lot better than jegs, but jegs sometimes has better prices...

Yeah, if they are only 2.5", then I might swing back towards the Hooker's again. From what I hear, Edelbrock TES's are a pain to install, and SLP is a little too pricey for me. I like Hookers though, real high quality stuff...
