Bolt removal question
Bolt removal question
I removed my emissions controls, and I wante to remove the AIR pipes that come from the CAT and the Headers. I just can't get to the bolt on the back of the engine that is a clamp on those two pipes. Has anyone been able to remove these things, and what tool did you use. Thanks. What a headache.

Yep! I feel your pain!! My '89 IROC has just one cat, so it had just one tube. I got to the clamp on the back of the passenger head from below......and above. That bolt has a nut on it too that holds the clamp and some grounding wires. My Dad and I ground a 14mm open end wrench so that it was very slim (thickness). He put it on the bolt head, not the nut, from above, and I got a long (12") boxed 14mm wrench from below on the nut and got it loose and removed the clamp, pipe and ground wires. Be sure to put the wires back.
BTW, I had my exhaust lowered from the manifolds and the starter off as well.
It's a pain, but that's what I did......thanks Dad, teamwork!
Good luck!

Have you thought about, removing the distributor, removing the tranny crossmember and lowering the tranny to tilt the motor back and down for easy access??
