flowtech headers and a y pipe?
im getting a set of flowtech headers and i dont know if i should get the flowtech y pipe or have an exhaust shop make me one? and does the flowtech y pipe bolt on to the cat or weld on? i dont have the tools to weld it so could i just clamp it on and take off my cat? i know flowtech's arent the best but im not going for quality or performance i am going for price, i did an engine swap and i need headers for a drivers side dipstick. so whats ur oppinion? thanks

I have a hi flo Flowtech muffler,,,I will be buying headers (ypipe) before spring. I was thinking of keeping it all flowtech,,,,I love my car but knowing me Ill get bored of it in a few years and probly get a 4th gen or suptin. So I cant justify getting slp or expensive ones either. Plus Im still only running with stock size pipes (cat removed). So where are you thinking of getting your flowtech headers and so on?? how much are you paying them? If I find the answer to you question Ill let you know.

I got the flowtech headers and y-pipe. The y-pipe slips onto the cat and you can just clamp it. I'm not running a cat, but I have a piece of pipe there thats clamped in its place and I haven't had any problems yet. But I made the mistake of using the gaskets that came with it. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on soft aluminum gaskets. The paper ones are useless. They worked for about a week before I started springing leaks all over. But anyway, for the money, I'm very happy with my Flowtechs. They beat the hell out of the stock manifolds.
I have these headers. The Y-Pipe is absolutely horrendous; I ran it for awhile but a custom Y-pipe is a must. The overall quality of these headers are quite good, I definitely wasn't disappointed with them at all.

Are you talking about the aluminum gaskets at the block or at the header to ypipe part???? With ones were leeking on ya?
Did you replace the manifolds yourself? Did you have any problem witht he manifold/block bolts corroded,,,can I buy new studs or are they bolts, do they come with the headers? One last question,,,does the flowtech ypipe clamp up to the factory sized exahast,,,what size of pipe did you clamp it to?? Thanks for the help!

The install was really easy, a lot easier than I had expected. The manifold bolts came out nice and easy. None stripped or broke. And i think there were 2 studs, but I don't really remember. The headers come with new bolts. The gaskets that are leaking for me are the ones that are between the heads and headers. But I'm going to replace them all anyway. And the y-pipe connects to 2.5" pipe. If yours is different you can just get an adapter at just about any parts store for like $2. Let me know how everything goes for ya.

I don't know the manufacturer's part numbers. I ordered from jegs, the headers were 387-11102 and the y-pipe was 387-11102Y. It came with everything you'll need for the install. Not sure of the gasket numbers since I haven't go them yet. I'm waiting for the weekend.

I got the headers and y-pipe for $200. The y-pipe is 2.5", not sure what you have stock. It should be good enough unless your planning pushing over say 300 hp.
