Help, HEader Inserts to reduce sound
I'm going to be getting the car running soon, after new heads, and Hedman long tubes. I was going to do duals, but I'm worried about clearance. I saw in the Summit catalog, they sell these inserts that you put into headers that claim "doesn't add any restriction" and there are 2 types. One of them has a 2 layer insert for race/track purpose I believe, and the other 3 layer one is for the strip/street use. My question is, anyone use these? They're about the cost of a muffler. I just want to make sure the cops won't be pulling me over for it being too loud. They're not too bad around here with that stuff as long as you don't drive like an idiot.
Any thoughts?

Mark, I have the 3-disk units in my exhaust. They are my mufflers.
It's a little on the loud side, but an 11:1+ compression 383 isn't going to really be quiet with any muffler. I have a set of Headman LT's hanging on my wall, and Hooker LT's on my car; good luck getting the collector inserts into the Headmans. I had to trim off a little of the inserts to make them fit correctly with my exhaust. If you intend to run round pipe, you might be able to stuff them in the pipes and make them work. My exhaust is 90% or better made of oval tubing. Spin Tech says they have some little flat resonators that aren't overly restrictive. If I find I am attracting too much attention from the local law enforcement... I may look into those in addition to the collector inserts.
EDit: Mark, you have mail.
