Car: yy wife, crazy.
Engine: 350, Vortecs, 650DP
Transmission: TH-350
Axle/Gears: 8.5", 3.42
I did that to a 4.3L, 262 cid, TBI V6 I had in a 94 S-10. I ran a straight pipe and a K&N air filter with the lid flipped over to act like a open element. I wanted better gas milage, driving 120 miles a day to work and back. I took it to the drag strip for sh*ts and giggles. I ran a 16.54 et @ 83mph. That was a 5-spd, long bed, reg. cab, open rear end, and 180K miles on the motor. No power windows, lock, tilt or cruise. Just a truck.

I read and article in CHP mag about them doing mods to a 96 short bed with the CPI (Vortec) 4.3L. They spent $350 on a cat back (I don't remember the brand), a Hypertech reprogramer thingy, an under drive pulley kit, and a K&N filter. With radial tires they pulled a best of 16.2 corrected. My run was at ony 650 ft. above sea level. Not much to correct.

Mine was not real loud. It didn't sound like a V8, (duh) but it sounded modified no doubt. I assume it just letting the motor breath easier. Everyone at the strip, after they saw it was a V6, was actually looking for a NOS bottle hiding somewhere Plus I still knoked down about 22-24 mpg, running 80-85 mph all the time.

You got me missing that truck now that I'm sitting hear talking (writing) about it. Damn you!!!!! I just sold it last fall. I guess I'm still emotionally attached to it. I get like that with cars and trucks. Guess I'm a true car guy!!! I put 86 Monte Carlo SS wheels on it, 255/60/15 BFGs, and had the bottom/grill/bumpers painted silver. It was solid medium blue with the black bumpers/grill when I bought it with 148k miles on it. That was in June, '98. Paid $2600 for it, then $400 for the paint job. Then sold it for $3000 2 yrs later. Not bad I guess. Anyway, I'm babbling. Sorry
