edelbrock headers, will this sound good??
I just bought the edelbrock 1-5/8" headers, and I was wondering if my car is going to sound any better. I have the 3" cat back from flowmaster. I also want to know how good the power increase will be.
It will sound A LOT better. Not only louder, but more powerful sounding (plus another 15-20HP). A will make a big difference that I can guarantee you'll love. I doubt there is a single person who was ever disappointed in the sound improvement over stock exhaust

I was thinking about getting a set of the Edelbrock TES headers myself. Part#350-68721.....they are chrome plated..BUT....it says for one cat only. I have dual cats....they have them for dual cats...but..it dosen't say that they are chrome plated. Both of my cats are cut off......could I get the set up for a single cat since my cats are cut off???????

I have a factory dual cat car that I installed the Edelbrock TES 68721 chrome headers on. My buddy is a good exhaust man, he said that I had a choice. He could easily weld that up to my dual cat setup or .. and he had already ordered it for me and had it setting on the floor.
A mendrel bent 3'" dynamax exhaust pipe set up with a 3" inch in and dual 3" inch out Flowmaster muffler and some kewl chrome tips... It not only sounds and looks awesome. It along with the headers makes my car run way better. I don't miss the dual cats at all.... I also installed a 3" carsound cat too...
I just got done installing the aluminum header gaskets too after about 2 months. Do your self a big favor and install them from the start. It's a be-itch to do them things in a F-body. at least the right side.

How about me? Maybe a dumb question...but I'm putting Dynomax Blackjack shorties on mine, with 2 1/2in primaries, no AIR, and it will go into 2 1/2 inch collectors...with a Flowtech Y-pipe...and into my cat back exhaust with a Random Tech cat, and a Flowmaster...will mine get louder and more powerful sounding too?

I had a flowmaster catback on my 86 IROC, and then added the TES headers. The sound got a little bit louder, not too noticeable to me. But the growl really changed alot, it got a heck of alot meaner sounding. Bottomline, it sounds extremely badass. And the power gain was quite noticeable. (I had a cam, and some intake porting already though, exhaust should have been holding me back at that point...)
I also have the TES headers on my 87Z with a Hooker catback, and it sounds even better IMO. But I never had that setup with that engine with the stock exhaust manifolds so I can't speak to any changes jus the headers had...

With the cat-back that I have now, I had a mustang owner come up to me and ask if I had headers on my car...thats how loud it was/is
But I'm assuming that the golden rule still exists...once you open up the exhaust, wherever you start(headers, cat, muffler), it will only increase flow and sound. So I already have two of three done....my theory(since I dont know if its 100% accurate or not), is that if I go and put headers on the car, this will only increase the flow of the gasses more, freeing up horsepower as well as more sound since the exhaust is comming out easier and faster....at least that is what I am hoping for. So if someone can confirm this for me, I'd much appreciate it. The car sounds awesome now, and really rumbles and gurgles....but I want more...more is better

I put on a set of edelbrock headers running through a random tech super high flow cat and a flowmaster american thunder exhaust with dual 3" tips and it sounds badass. A little bit louder than stock at idle, but vicious at wot. Everybody that hears it wants to know whats in there.

What do you mean "a little bit louder than stock at idle" ? I dont understand what that means...does this mean with the cat and flowmaster AND the headers....or...? So I'm a bit confused....

With just headers you will get a louder lower tone, more of a burble at idle. thats because the exhaust ports have their own primaries. Then when you get on it you definitely will notice it will be a lot louder and sound a lot better

I just order a set of the Edelbrock TES dual cat headers for my 91 Z28 (5.7) today too. I have the electronic exhaust cutout....with both cats removed...flowing through a 3 inch cat back 80 series flowmaster....right now..no headers...but..when the exhaust cutout is open..you don't have to "get on it" at all....and it sounds like a damn NASCAR....I swear...it is soooo loud...now with headers...so to be installed...I can't even imagine....
..just what I'm looking for.

Ah.....ok....so with headers and my current cat-back system, even at idle, I'm going to rattle windows, and scare stray neighborhood cats 2 blocks away?? Good deal....if thats the case, then I shall make this mod with a big grin, for all the scared little children that will hear me in their nightmares about loud thirdgens surrounding them and revving their modified motors and exhausts in synchronization

:lala: ....I'm all for scaring small children, rattling windows, scaring the fur off stray cats, and causing old people's depends to bust and leak, and prostetic body pieces to fall off with my exhaust sound
I cant wait to put mine on. I just need to paint them and wrap them and order my Y-pipe. I'm-a thinkin after spring break....yea.....more kids outside, and old people with canes
Ok....thats mean, I know I know...but think of it this way...some might be so deaf, they cant hear anyway...and our cars might be loud enough to bring back their hearing
See? There's an upside to everything!! I just hope my Flowtech Y-pipe hooks up to my Dynomax Shorties....they should....right? I couldnt look at the y-pipe cause i have to order it where I work...no pictures.
I already have TES headers and flowmaster 80 series muffler (dual exit). The I pipe and tailpipes I believe are stock (2.5"). I'd like to eventually upgrade to 3" catback.
How different will the sound be upgrading to 3"?
Also, anyone know if flowmaster makes 3" catbacks for dual cat cars? Summit only lists 3" setups for single cat cars and 2.5" setups for dual cats.

when i back my car up to my garage, even though its 3 feet away from the door, my exhaust rattles the whole damn thing and shakes all the front windows in my house at idle.
I don't want mine to be deftning, but I want it to be load and powerful sounding....
Although an exaust cutout for the occasional fun would be cool....cruise through the neighborhood sounding like a top fuel dragster! Muahahaha!

i thought i had heard that a 350 should use 1 3/4 and that 1 5/8 are for 305's.
but i understand now that as long as you aren't going over 300rwhp 1 5/8 are just fine for a 350?
also, does the edel (68721) come with the y-pipe and anyone actually know what the dyno gain or 1/4 mile increase is?
thanks!!

I'm going back to the track this friday for the first time since I installed my edel. headers, my previous time with the BONE stock 350/lg4 exh. manifolds etc. was a 15.1@90, but since then I have installed ported vortec heads, the headers & y pipe, cutout, edel. manifold, accel 8.8 wires, flamethrower coil, so the times should be a lot faster than be4. I know its not just the headers but I'll let everyone know what I run..
I have some edelbrock TES headers part number 6871 that were on my car for 3,000 miles, the factory crap coating burned off so I glass beaded them and repainted the headers and Y-pipe with 1300 degree paint, everything is in perfect condition and I have every part needed to install if anyone needs a set make me an offer, if you want some pictures just ask.
