Cat Back system from JCWhitney - Anyone have it??

Hi! Just saw a cat back system in the jc whitney book that sounds almost identical to the dynomax. It is aluminized and you can buy the stainless tips too. System with tips is about $186.90 plus tax/shipping. Anyone have this set up? Is it like the dynomax? Seems like a really good price. Let me know what you think!

Thanks!!!!!

I do not have it but have heard it I believe. I think that cp87gta has that on his car. It seemed real nice for the price. I believe it was pace setter or something like that. It was 3" mandrel bent pipe also.

That's what I have - mostly.

It is Pacesetter. The i-pipe is a nice aluminized 3" mandrel bent, the tails 2-1/2" mandrel. The muffler, however, is 2-1/2" outlets with 2-1/2" inlet. The inlet has been expanded to fit the 3" i-pipe. Which means it's 3" until the muffler.

That's why I have a Flow in there. Still cost less than the typical cat-back.

I never tried the supplied muffler. I've heard it's reasonably quiet, slightly louder than stock.

Thanks guys! I am getting ready to upgrade motor etc. and am in need of a system and this just might be the one, at least to start with. I REALLY like the price! *L* How important are headers and if I am going to do away with A.I.R., do I still need a cat between the Y and int pipe?

I would recommend headers, without a doubt. The Hooker 2055's have a great y-pipe, and the O2 fitting that your TPI will still need (assuming your upgrades keep the TPI). If you don't want the A.I.R. tubes, cut them off and braze them shut.

The cat will either be a connection between the y-pipe and i-pipe, or something to keep the exhaust cleaner - however you want to look at it. If you're not concerned about the latter, put in a piece of 3" pipe.

five7kid...

Thanks again!! I will probably use a cat, maybe like the one you have. I think I found one for like $35. Anyway, I just didn't know if the AIR had anything to do with the cat. Like I said, I am a newbie! OH.... What kind of tips do you have on your exhaust?

I have a Catco high-flow 3" universal. I would not recommend it. I thought I was saving money, but the mods I needed to make ended up costing me more than the difference, and I gave up one degree of freedom for adjusting the cat-back installation.

Get a TPI direct-fit instead. It will bolt up between the header y-pipe and cat-back with no modifications needed.

I don't have any tips, just the tailpipes bare (they're cut at an angle).

I 3in in/out cat will work but it wil have to be either clamped on or welded on. The stock cat bolts up.

I am running the exact same as five7kid. Yes, its the Pacesetter system. Very nice pipes, but as he said, steps to 2 1/2 going into the muffler. I switched in the Flow also. Thing is that w/ my new motor I'm going to switch to long tubes and true duals. - BTW My catback is only a couple months old and I'll sell it w/ the Flowmaster for $150 + shipping. any interested, PM me...If you don't need a cat for emmisions, I also have a new set of Flowtech headers and a custom y-pipe available...

later, justin...

I got one last week. The pipes are nice. 3 in. mandrel bends. The whole 9 yards. It was an absolutely beautiful exhaust system, until I tried to put it in the car, and it didn't fit. Both the I-pipe, and the over-axle pipe are about 1 1/2 in. too long.

the muffler thing is bs too. it's like it's got a 3" to 2 1/2" reducer welded right on the end of the muffler...no biggie to me, I'm gonna put one of the crossflow flowmasters in it...just as soon as I figure out how to shorten these pipes.
