How do i know if i need AIR when i order headers?
Hey guys, um its a question that has been nagging me sometime, but i dont know the answer.
The time will come when i will get headers. Probably Hooker ceramic coated, but im a bit hesitant about the whole AIR deal.
Well my question is do i need it? Im mean due the current stock manifolds have some current AIR setup already?
My car is in the sig, any other info u need tell me.
Please i wanna clear up this annoying issue, thanks.
P.S. I do know that there is a tube that goes into the catalytic converter, isnt that some sort of AIR setup.

AIR is for emissions. If your state has emissions testing, AIR would be a good idea to have. I will be getting Hooker 2055's ceramic coated from JetHot with AIR, you might wanna check those out. They are $520 shipped from JetHot, and they coat the headers and y-pipe inside and out.

No we dont have emmisions here in Michigan as far as i know. Would there be any downside from not A.I.R., like engine problems or whatever.
What benefits other than being cheaper would there be to not having A.I.R.
Can i get a link to those headers u picked, thanks.

I'm having the same issue....I'm looking at getting a set of hedman shorties...already coated from JEGS...only $258....but..I was wondering about the air tubes. I'm in Indiana...and there are no emission laws....both of my cat's are cut off....is that all the air tubes are for? just your cat (s)??

Indiana has emissions laws, my car was purchased from Indiana and I have the last emissions paper from Indiana.
AIR tubes also go into your manifolds.
As for a link to the headers, JetHot does not have them listed on their website, www.jet-hot.com but you can email them about them.

A.I.R. is purely an emissions reduction concern. If you have visual inspection, you will need to have both A.I.R. to the manifolds and to the cat. If you only have sniffer, A.I.R. to the cat will help lower emissions. No codes will be set if A.I.R. is removed.
It takes some power to run the pump, but the amount is less than what it takes to turn underinflated tires.

Ok....if I get a set of headers....with NO air fittings.....can I still keep my smog pump hooked up?
You have two ways to go:
1) Buy headers with AIR fittings and KEEP ALL the emission controls.
2) Buy headers without the AIR fittings and REMOVE ALL the emission controls.
No middle ground. However; more states will be enforcing emission laws/per Federal EPA.

I'll probably just get a set of Edelbrok TES headers....they are $349.00 from JEGS...that's really not to bad...they are ceramic coated...and have the air tubes...just in case I need them in the future.

Im probably gonna go with a high flow cat anyway, so might as well get A.I.R headers too.
I don't have emissions testing here in FL but I went with AIR headers just in case I ever moved elsewhere and I needed them. I would get 'em with AIR, just to be safe.
And get 'em coated if you can afford it. Otherwise the paint will burn off and it makes 'em look ugly.

Oh ya, im gonna get them coated no matter what. More money? No big deal, i just wait longer, so sometimes patience pays off, and in this case it will.

I would just leave AIR on, I don't think it hurts HP bad enough for you to notice a difference.
