Fumes in the passenger compartment
Fumes in the passenger compartment
It seems the colder it is outside, the more I can smell fumes inside my car. If im doing about 50 and I hit the gas, I can smell it pretty good. My exhause it in good shape. Im thinking it's either coming in through the rear hatch because my seal is old. Would it be possible that some of the hoses in my emissions control are cracked? Any suggestions?

I asked this question a little while ago, I checked my engine while I was changing the antifreeze to see if I could find any smoke or anything, I did notice a puff of smoke now and then from around the engine block where the oil is put in the block. Maybe the seal around the cap is loose and you have a slight leak or were not careful when you put the oil in? It smells like exhaust for me too when I am driving but it sure seems like it might be a puff of oil now and then... But that's on my car maybe yours is completely different. I did get a reply though and here's what AntiVTEC had to say
I don't know though, I just bought my car around a week ago and I'll have to see if the smoke and exhaust smell goes away. It seems to come in only through the air vents for me so I'm pretty sure it's not a simple thing like the seal on the trunk being bad, did you recently have your windshield replaced? Maybe they didn't do a perfect job on it and it might be leaking in through there? Hopefully someone will shed some light on this situation cause I'm dying to know myself ;-)

It actaully seems like the air systems gets its air from infront of the windshield, through those grills next to the windshield wipers. Can someone confirm this for me because when the system is on, you can hear and feel the air getting sucked in from there. Anyway, the exhaust could come from a header, but it could also come from a leaking EGR system. On my V6, theres a tube that runs from the header to the intake manifold and it did have a little leak there. I just sealed it up with a little hi-temp gasket maker.</font>
