Please don't tell me you're putting headers on that 7,000 miles original? Oh well its your car... but header install is anywhere from $200-$300.

I would put headers on it. Exhaust work isn't bad IMO for that car. Not like messing with your engine where it's much harder to bring it back to stock condition.

I think it's going to run me around 200 bucks to have a set of the Edelbrock TES headers installed in my car..I don't think I could ever do it myself....

I looked into it once and the shop was giong to charge me $250 for the install and a custom y-pipe. The shop is owed by a "friend" of mine, so the price might have been a little bit lower. But I would rather save the money and put it towards something else.

What's wrong with installing it yourself? The only money I dished out was the labor for the Y pipes (150).

One of my buddies said he would install a set of headers (Edelbrock TES) in my 91 Z28......if I gave him an extra highrise spoiler that I have...I wanted 150 bucks for that..so...that sounds like a pretty descent deal to me.

I guess it depends. Some people see it as hard but to me it wasn't that bad (it's much easier if you have smog and A/C stuff removed). I will have to do the job again when the time comes to send them out for coating. I'd recommend doing it over a weekend or something, that way you have enough time.

Yeah save yourself the headache and let somebody else do it. Its definetly worth the 200 dollars. My friend did it himself and he said never again.

Do it yourself. It is NOT hard. You'll never learn anything about your car or cars in general if you are afraid to work on them. Even on a 3rd gen headers are a basic install. Patience and the willingness to get your hands dirty are the only things required. You will be rewarded with a great sense of accomplisment, added self esteem, and a faster, better sounding ride.

I agree 100% but...it depends what your "into"..see....I look at changing headers...and I say...."damn!".....now..I look at a dent..or a rust hole and say.."that's nothing, I can do that no prob"....I just don't want to mess up anything...since I have NEVER messed with any engine stuff.....I would rather have it done the right way....and not messed up....plus...it wouldn't take to much time if someone installed them and knows what they are doing. I do agree with you 100% though.....I dunno..maybe..I'll try it....

Even if you dont want to do it yourself, chances are you know someone who can or you know someone who knows someone. So, just buy a couple of twelve packs and let them do the work. That is what I did when I didnt want to change my plugs and wires.

Ditto. If you got the tools and some mechanical knowledge, I'd say definitely try it first. You don't even need special tools, just the basic wrenches, sockets. Well I did have to go out and rent a pipe cutter but that was no big deal. Also it's a good idea to have a set of ramps, and a jack in case you need to lift one side of the motor.

If it helps, write down on a piece of paper every connector or hose you disconnect when doing the job.
