V6 exhaust question
V6 exhaust question
Ok, before everyone yells at me to search, i did and couldnt find an answer to my question, maybe im just lazy but i would appreciate your comments either way. Anyway, ive got a 91 v6 bird and was looking to better my exhaust for performance (i dont care as much how it sounds i just want what performs) anyway i was looking at the Dynomax Catback turbo muffler kit with 2 1/2 pipes for $156 before installation and shipping, but a local muffler store said it was a waste of money they recommened flowmaster 40 series, 3 inch pipe cats and they dont have mandrel bent pipes like the dynomax, the flowmaster was for $325 installed. Im pretty lost on what to do so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The Dynomax system would be fine for a V6.
Another option is the Pacesetter cat-back from JC Whitney. 3 inch I-pipe, mandrel bend, 2-1/2" dual-opposite tailpipes. The muffler inlet is 2-1/2", so that's the smallest flow-area size (although the 3" I-pipe provides a plenum effect). ~$145 before shipping.

I'd say first step in performance for your car would be adding 2 more cylinders...
Basically for a V6 you don't want anything bigger than a 2 1/2" exhaust system because the V6 needs the backpressure. So if at all possible go for 2.5". Anything bigger and you will actually lose power.

The pipes on the Dynomax cat-backs are mandrel bent, that's what I've got one mine (unless someone proves me wrong! I've always thought they were).
I defintely noticed a performance increase with my cat-back. Go with Dynomax. Besides, along with the performance, it adds a really nice deep tone. It's not as loud and aggressive as say Hooker or Flowmaster, and in my opinion that's a good thing... shouldn't be too aggressive if you're only running a 6.
