Headers on '86 with A/C

Anyone installed headers on an '86 with A/C..? Im not sure if it'll be different on the later ones as some of the accesories were switched around at some point - but anyways, how the he|| do you get to the last two bolts on the exhaust on the passenger side..? I can't seem to get any room from above to get any tools down there, and I can hardly see them from underneat, even though the Y-pipe is already off...?

Any ideas...?

Thanks!!

Ken

Those were a pain in the ****, CK. How did I do that last time? I think I slipped the socket onto the bolthead first, then maneuvered the ratchet head onto the socket and about a half hour of turning 30 degrees at a time, finally got it.

Next time do what i did. I always had a tuff time tightening my header bolts. So when i took my 305 out and threw it in the trash for a 350, I took a hammer before i installed them and put little dents in the tubes right near where the bolt tightens. Now i have no problem what so ever getting the open end of a wrench on them. Or try grinding a socket down on the outer edge.

Just get some kid with little hands under your car to put them in for you. All you have to do is stand above and tell them what to do. After they get it in, hand them a few bucks. After you get the bolts in, I just used a combination wrench to tighten them. It is the only thing I had that would fit.

Thanks guys,
I think Jza's idea is the only one thats gonna work. It isn't getting the socket on the bolt that is the BIGGEST problem, that is to get the ratchet in there + my hand...
I kinda doubt that the kid trick will work either, cause the rest of the bolts certainly have required whatever I have of elbow-grease..

Thanks again folks, I guess I'll just have to take a bucket full of Norwegian "power-swearing" and a socket/ratchet and give it another try...

I have done it two different ways.
Do it from above the car
1)Use a 1/4" drive with a long socket, a universal and an extension. A 3/8 socket doesn't fit in the small space between the bolt and header pipe.
2)Bend a wrench with a torch into a right angle and you will get little 1/8 turns on it.
Those are the only ways I found to do it on my car with the SLP headers.

SLP headers and catback
A4 with 3.42 gears
Fully loaded and everything usually works.
