How would this setup work....

I'm getting my exhuast done now. I have the cash, and I'm good to go. I've got $575 to spend, and I think I know what I'm gonna do. First, I wanna get some 1 3/4" headers, whether I have to get in on that SLP GP or not. Then, I'm gonna get a 3" hi-flow cat. The final thing I was gonna do was get a turndown pipe, to aim the exhaust at the ground from the cat. My question is, will this work? Will it hold back power, will it be too loud? What? Thanks guys. I'd appreciate the help, since I'd like to get everything ordered this week.

Nate

It will work, but its gonna be pretty loud. Might get pulled over a few times by the cops. Problem is, if u keep getting pulled over and getting tickets, then ur gonna have to get a cat-back. Might want to save urself the trouble now and just get a 3" cat-back exaust. Just a thought.

Thanks a lot Eric. And another thing: since I know that the noise will be a factor (which cops around here dont care too much about), what about the performace? Would a cat-back be better? I'd like to think it'd be worse because it has a muffler, which is a hell of a lot more restrictive than a cat. I don't know, it just seems that if you have less resistance (pipes and muffler) you're gonna make more power. Don't know, just a thought.

on my old 305 87' sport coupe I was running hooker long tube headers and then side pipe exits with no mufflers..That used to get me pulled over quite a bit. Even with the 305 on the car it was really really loud. Never got a ticket just a few curious cops looking to give me a minor hassle.

I'm gonna have a 383 stroker and it's gonna be carbed. And about the noise, I dont think it's gonna be a big deal. The cops really dont care. You can tell, since there's a street-legal "pro street" dragster. I havent talked to the guy yet, but he has a LOUD car. It's all tubbed out and everything, but I still see him drivin it. Anyways, back on subject. Yeah, I'm goin with a good 383 setup, shootin for 400 horse, but it all depends on what i find for heads. I'd just like to get this exhaust done. It'll be the biggest improvement to my car.
