I have heard that when you have a single exhaust pipe you get better flow when you have only a single outlet on the muffler instead of dual. Is this true??

depends on the muffler design. I'm sure there are some single in out muffler that flow better than single in dual out and vice versa. Its a lot uglier than a dual out version so most people won't do it.

the reason they say that is because on the ones that exit on both sides at the rear, (such as flowmaster 80 series) one of the tips routes exhaust so that it has to turn 180* while the other goes straight out.

When I originally started modifying my GTA I had this same question so I called Flowmaster. The tech I talked to said, and I quote, "Cross flow mufflers suck". Needless to say, I went with the Force II kit.

ya the only reason im using cross flow it cause i like the look of dual 3.5" chrome tips. one of these days when i get more performance parts on, i'll put the two on the left muffler back on.

Ya that is most likely the case so I plan on doing True duals 1 in 1 out x 2 =

------------------
1989 Trans Am GTA, L98 5.7L TPI, TH700-R4, T-Tops, dual cats, 9-bolt rear, 3.27,
- K&N Air Filter
- Dynomax muffler

1992 Camaro RS, LO3 5.0L TBI, T-5, T-Tops, 3.08, L69 Dual Snorkel - Sold
- K&N Air Filter

Honda engines ROCK, I have one on my lawn mower but I still have to push it.

I've also heard that with dual outs, obviously 1 out is on the same side as the "in" and typically the "in" pipe has to be smaller in that situation.

' Course you could go with a 1 in/ 2 out straight-through design like the one's from SLP and Borla. But both tips will still be on the same side.
