What should I do about this converter??

OK, I want to sell this car, but the converter needs to be replaced. It is making alot of noise and the car doesn't seem as quick as it was before this. If u want to sell a car that needs a converter, the buyer will want to knock off lots of money because of it. Should I buy the Summit converter, take the 1 on there off myself and have a muffler place put on the new 1, or sell it like it is or what?? I'm thinking do the Summit converter thing, its all about money though since I want to sell it, so what do u think??

89 RS 2.8 V6, when u go next to it and listen u can hear stuff in there when revved, it sounds weird all the time, and I think it feels slower at certain RPM.

you could just take it off, clean it out, and put it back on, as long the engine is tunned good it should still pass emissions.

I don't think it would pass?? How would u get it back on after taking it off to clean it out when its welded on and I can't do that stuff, should I put a pipe through it??

Go to a muffler shop and have the cut your old one off and weld on a new one. It will cost $100-$150. If the muffler shop will let you bring one in, then that might be cheaper. Make sure you ask them first, some won't do it. Don't gut it or remove it and push your problem onto someone else.

Why not just hollow it out. I bought my car without a converter and I didn't have the guy knock any money off, I looked at it like a mod. But then again I should have because I had to end up buying one anyways.

I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is. Could it still be good enough even with all the sounds its making?? It seems a little quieter today, I did alot of revving just to see if it would do anything.

i would take it out throw an old broom handle through it, and put it back on. my friends 86 IROC had a clogged cat...it took away a TON of performance.

You will probably sell it for much more if the cat is replaced, when someone takes it for a test drive they will be skeptical... etc. I bet you could make more money than it costs to replace over the price you would sell it at without fixing the problem. Hope that made sense.
