Small Siver Tubing and Black Box

what are those small silver tubes that come off the exaust manifold? what do they do?, and that black box on the passenger side, what does it do, what is it for, can i remove it??

Those are for air injection it's for emmisions purposes only. The black box is a diverter valve of some sort that lets the air in.

ok, if i were to remove the black box thing, and on my new edelbrock headers, seal up the AIR tubes, would it run better? would i fail emmissions with that?

Depends upon how extensive your emissions inspections/tests are. Technically, you'd fail visual if the inspector knew what he was doing. Practically, you may fail the sniffer test.

they dont do a visual test here, but now i have a nother problem, where the 4 silver tubes connect to the rubber hose, that broke off, now im getting mass smoke comming out of my engine, how could i fix that
?

Hey, someone else from SE WI. You're probably getting exhaust in your engine compartment. blocking off the air tubes may be your best bet for now if you can't fix what actually broke. I know that the sniffer is way more strict for you than for me, 86 became stiffer and the standards recently became even more strict for 86-92 i believe. I just passed yesterday with flying colors with a car that has 190,000 miles and a cat that's probably damn near clogged from an overly rich condition that was just fixed, but i still have all emissions equipment.

Any suggestions on how to cap off the air tube, i dont have emmissions for like a year and a half, so i dont have to worry about anything soon, i heard its poissible to register up north and skip emmissions, whats all that about
