Straight Pipes, your ideas....
Straight Pipes, your ideas....
Guy I goto for my car owns his own performance shop, dyno testing etc... He races in road america and so do his other two mechanics. I want to get hooker cat-back and headers and he told me there both ****. He said to go with hedmann, dynomax or edelbrock, because he said hooker makes cheap products., then he said he could tell his exhaust guy to put on custom true duals on my car with an x-pipe and run straight pipes all the way back. What do you guys think? Good idea? He said it will give a great sound thats much better than any catback, and will give me performance.

no don't do it!!!!
if you want it to sound like those annoying 1 ton pickup that make that racking sound when you let off the gas
you will get better performance with a good flowing exhaust and good muffler (borla, flowmaster, dynomax),
straight are for hillbillies..LOL

lots of people are very happy with hookers, do a search and see for yourself. I am ordering their cat back soon and checking into thier headers. By the way Hooker is made by holley, last time I check holley was considered pretty good quality stuff.

I like Flowmaster better. Go with a nice exhaust system.

My hooker headers looked 100x better than my friends edelbrocks. cleaner welds, less splattering. no blockage of ports expect for one air tube that can easily be ground down.

Been happy with mine.Just like Tas stated above: They do look better as far as the quality of welds and things like that.

I just got the hooker cat back system on my car. The build quality and fit was very good. I've used hooker super comp headers on other cars and they were always very good also. I think that guy may be smokin some crack on the side too.
Any other opinions on straight pipes with an x-pipe?
Yes! DOn't get them! You will have next to no ground clearance, it will be sound raspy and crackel and pop so much eveytime you let off the gas it sounds like fireworks going off in your pipes. Unless its a race car DON"T! It'll be so loud its nothing but annoying. I know 2 guys who did it on 4th gens, its just ugly sounding.
And I've never heard anyone on here buy a hooker and complain about it. Everyone seems to really like the system.

correct me if im wrong, but if your motor is basicly stock, you will lose a bunch of low end tourq by putting on straight pipes and headers. and it would sound like a hill billy ride. go w/ flowmaster
I think hooker makes good products..sounds like that guy just wants to make a fast buck. I like flowmaster much better though
but thats just me. Although the flowmaster cat-back with only one outlet to me looks like a$$ IMO .I got the 80 and are planning to get headers and bigger intermediate pipe. I like the look of dual outlets..and I like dual str8 pipes on a 5.7 that is.. I was told you get a louder sound from your muffler if you have turn downs due to the sound echoing off the ground
