emmissions and no cats?

So I am wondering if i can pass emmissions if i remove my cats? I have a zz3 cam, afr 190 heads. Here in seattle, we have the sniffer test. What will it take for me to pass emmissions without my cats?

usually if you have to take an emissions test you'll need your cats, you'll at least have to have them on the car, now if you gut them out that's a different story, but good luck passing w/o them because in most states it's illegal not to have them

We never get under the hood inspections. I have never seen them check for the cats. I am hoping it is possible to pass the sniffer test with out my cats on. Has anyone passed the emmission test with a gutted cat or straght pipe and not cat? Also, what should i do with the air tube that goes tothe cat? Just leave it open to atomsphere?

i dunno about your state, but here in NJ the people at the emissions walk around the car with mirrors to make sure that everything is there, cats, mufflers etc...i dont think you can pass the sniffer test without cats though, but you can try if you want.

My old 86 IROC passed the old sniffer we used to have here with a gutted cat. That was just the rev the car up to 2500rpm in neutral for a minute test. When we moved to the dyno emissions test that puts a load on it to simulate actual driving, it failed pretty miserably. Put on a Catco cat and it passed just fine. Could tell no difference in power...

Emmisions are so hard to pass now a days. How do all these 350's, 383's etc. pass with all these mods? I got a 90 iroc z 350, bone stock. I have to take emmisions in 1 month. Which octane rated gasoline burns cleanest? How do people pass now a days?

In Dallas Tx No.. you will not pass without the cat. i dont know your states laws though. The best thing to do is just to call up an inspection place like texaco and ask them You could just gut it and weld a stright pipe through it. hmm... I think I'll do that come to think if it.. heheheh......he........

what if you just run it on 4cyl? it wouldnt be possible for you carb/tbi guys but for those of us in the TPI clan we could do it. just pull out 4 plugs and 4 injector wires. 4cyl=half the pollution right???????

it better work because with no cats, no egr, 11:1 compression and a badass cam its my only hope to pass. hopefully they wont notice the "rough idle" on 4cyl. heheheh
