i just ordered my hooker cat-back...any tips on installing it?

it sounds like it's gonna b pretty easy besides the I pipe......what is a good way to get it up and over the rear axle and back down?

and i plan on using a car lift so will that make the installation a lot easier??

If my car was running, I would have just brought the kit to the muffler shop and had them weld the connections and make it hang right. In the kit, something will say that they recomend having all slip fittings welded. But if you're gonna do it yourself, I'd put outlet pieces onto the muffler, then hold the muffler in place, and slide the peice that goes over the axle on and bolt it to the muffler, secure the muffler, and put the peice on that goes to the cat. Anytime you use a car lift for working under a car it's gonna be soooo much easier. I just found it easier to do the installation from muffler to cat.

Hope this helps,

Scott

lol, of course u don't have to weld it. Hooker "recomends" it. They'll give you all the clamps you need. You'll reuse your hangers and bolts for the hangers, but for all the connections on the exhaust, you'll have a peice from them in your kit. You'll see.. It's one of the simplest mod's. My advice on removing your old exhaust is just to cut it off. Unbolt where it hangs to the frame, and unbolt the cat conection, then take a sawzall or equivalent and just cut whatever you need to to get the old crap off the car.

Not sure on how long it takes to break in. Mine's only got like 10hours of run time on it and it still sounds great. And, you'll notice the difference, especially over stock exhaust.

Good luck man

Here's a tip on making it stay lookin good. Put chrome polish or wax on the tailpipes before installation, this will make it easier. And every now and then wax or polish them, they will rust.

You may not have this problem with your Hooker system, but I sure did...one of the pipes coming out of the muffler will NOT line up. I had to get an exhaust shop to fab another pipe for me because it was so off-center. I was really ticked about that, but the end result was great. Everybody talks about a "break-in" period, but my exhaust has sounded the same since day one and that was almost a year ago.

From what I understand, the aerochamber muffler will not change tones or break in.

Actually it's not the tips that rusted on me, it was the rear pipes coming out of the muffler, the tips have been fine so far (about 2 months now) but I did put wax on them. I don't know what else you could do about the rear pipes, it seems like they were made with cheaper metal then the I pipe and actual muffler. I guess thats what you get for a cheap catback kit, I'm actually thinking of getting the rear outlet pipes coated, it looks kinda nasty right now.

well i got it on today

when i FIRST started it up the exhaust was just as quiet as the stock exhaust but then i did some high RPM runs and cruised a lil and now it sounds awesome!
i love the way it cackles and stuff

and i think it improved my performance cuz when i was cruzin i got on it from the start and my tires spun a lil more from the start and they spun when i hit second

and i have new tires now

The exact same thing happened to me ...The hangers on the tailpipes didnt even work with the stock locations.
